It\u2019s official: Jaguar\u2019s first new-era production car has a name. Welcome, one and all to the Type 01.<\/p>\n

Yes, after all the bluster. The wild ad campaign. The complete design rewrite. The internet imploding<\/a> the moment the Type 00<\/a> concept car was revealed. The long, drawn out process of various prototypes and pre-production versions<\/a> being wheeled out\u2026 and this is the real name.<\/p>\n

Jaguar has explained the name a little. \u2018Type\u2019 stems from the brand\u2019s extensive usage of the word already (C-Type, D-Type<\/a>, E-Type<\/a> and F-Type<\/a>), with \u20180\u2019 denoting the fact this new model emits zero tailpipe emissions. The use of \u20181\u2019 quite literally means the first of this new era of cars from Jaguar \u2013 almost in a Polestar-like fashion. Answers in the comments as to how much a design consultancy charged for thinking up that one.<\/p>\n

The new name has been revealed via a single teaser image that shows the concept car\u2019s slim vent-like panelling will remain on the production car. Jaguar calls this venting the \u2018strikethrough motif,\u2019 and says the name will be visible on the panel where the windscreen and bonnet meet.<\/p>\n

The new Jaguar Type 01 is still yet to be revealed, but the brand has confirmed that a set of prototypes will surface at the Formula E Monaco E-Prix on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May 2026.<\/p>\n

It will be an electric four-door grand tourer, stepping away from the two-door body style of the original Type 00 concept car. Jaguar has confirmed that the new platform underneath will mean more than one thousand metric horsepower (986bhp) and 959lb ft of torque.<\/p>\n

Besides the underwhelming name, the car itself is shaping up to be very interesting indeed. Having had a ride in one and driving a prototype in snowy Arjeplog, the new Type 01 impressed us.<\/p>\n
