Lotus has today confirmed it intends to push forward towards 2030 by being more\u2026 Lotus<\/em>. And headlining this new strategy will be a new hybrid V8 supercar with many, many horsepowers.<\/p>\n

More than 986bhp, in fact (1,000PS+). That car \u2013 currently codenamed Type 135 \u2013 will arrive in 2028 with an unconfirmed price but a semi-confirmed drivetrain. It\u2019ll use a development of the hybrid setup currently doing business in the Eletre X SUV<\/a> \u2013 what Lotus dubs \u2018X-Hybrid\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the Eletre, it\u2019s a very fancy setup comprising a fat 70kWh battery, 939bhp, a 2.0-litre four-pot turbo and 900V tech. Pretty good car, too. The Type 135 supercar will get a V8 bolted in rather than a four-pot, but aside from this and the fact it\u2019ll be built in Europe, we\u2019ll have to wait until later in 2026 to find out more.<\/p>\n

Still, long story short: a new Lotus V8 supercar!\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elsewhere in this Focus 2030 strategy, Lotus also confirmed the Emira<\/a> will continue to be built, and as a pure combustion-engined sportscar, too. Apparently we\u2019ll see an update very, very soon, and this update will represent \u201cthe most powerful and lightest Emira built\u201d.<\/p>\n

This continuation not only reflects \u201cLotus\u2019 commitment to manufacturing in the UK\u201d, but also \u201csustained consumer demand for its combustion-engine sportscars\u201d. Lotus isn\u2019t the only one fighting the brakes being put on EV adoption, remember.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Outside of the two tangible product news comes the other parts of \u2018Focus 2030\u2019: closer cooperation with mothership Geely (development speed, supply chain\u2026 things, building everything quicker, being able to sell it everywhere, etc etc), merging Lotus UK and Lotus Technology into a \u201csingle entity\u201d, and \u201crestoring financial discipline\u201d.<\/p>\n

On that last note, Lotus said it wants to focus on \u201ctargeted volumes\u201d and \u201cstronger margins\u201d which of course means more scope for personalisation \u2013 the magic elixir when you\u2019re competing at this end of the automotive bidness.<\/p>\n

It sees China as the \u201cprimary volume growth engine\u201d, Europe as the racing playground, the USA \u2018anchored\u2019 around sportscars and SUVs, and developing in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u201cLotus was born from the rebellious spirit of Colin Chapman,\u201d said CEO Qingfeng Feng, \u201cand that is not lost today. Focus 2030 will reset both the brand and the business to keep us true to our DNA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
