When <a class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/sega-considering-crazy-taxi-jet-set-radio-reboots-and-working-on-a-super-game\">the project was announced in 2021<\/a>, it formed a part of a long-term initiative that also involved a new first-person shooter developed at a European studio. Lots of industry buzzwords were used to describe what Sega was going for, such as \u2018global,\u2019 \u2018online,\u2019 \u2018make into media,\u2019 and \u2018IP utilization.\u2019 Sega had hugely ambitious sales targets for Super Game, too, aiming to bring in 100 billion yen (approx. $634 million) across its lifetime.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-2021719738 video jsx-2008855984 aspect-ratio aspect-ratio-16-9\">\n<div class=\"badge jsx-1349606671 jsx-3647116352\"><span class=\"ign-icon icon-play jsx-2750866048 jsx-1044454891\" role=\"img\" aria-hidden=\"false\" data-cy=\"icon-play\" aria-label=\"Play\" style=\"background:currentColor\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">News on Super Game has been thin on the ground, however. In November 2021, Sega said it was thinking about investing up to 100 billion yen (at the time approx. $882 million) over five years to make Super Game a success. Then, in November 2023, Sega said it was making &#8220;steady headway&#8221; on Super Game development, teasing it involved &#8220;the concept of a game that stands head and shoulders above normal games.&#8221; There was also talk of it involving &#8220;the entire gaming ecosystem, including not only players but also streamers who stream the game and their viewers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Now, five years after it was announced, Super Game is dead. Sega\u2019s free-to-play rethink stems from weak performance of Sonic Rumble Party, significant financial struggles with Angry Birds developer Rovio, and various delays. Sega said no additional costs were associated with the cancelation of Super Game, but over 100 people who were on F2P development have been transferred to what Sega calls \u201cFull Game\u201d development team to focus on \u201cthe mainstay IPs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">This cancelation has not impacted development of the various reboots Sega has in the works. It still has the new Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Jet Set Radio, and Crazy Taxi on its list of upcoming Full Game titles.
