Vauxhall and the wider Stellantis group have announced stronger ties with its Chinese partner Leapmotor, with the first tangible result being an upcoming new electric SUV.<\/p>\n

The new SUV will be built at Stellantis\u2019 plant in Zaragoza, Spain \u2013 the same location the Vauxhall Corsa<\/a>, Peugeot 208<\/a> and Lancia Ypsilon<\/a> are manufactured. Leapmotor International and Stellantis have confirmed that it will increase production there so that the Leapmotor C10 SUV<\/a> can be built with another line to be opened for this Vauxhall model.<\/p>\n

What Stellantis in Europe gets in return is access to technology and engineering from Leapmotor, with Stellantis saying that these deeper ties will \u2018enable the Zaragoza-produced new C-SUV to benefit from components enabled by the Leapmotor International ecosystem, helping to enhance affordability.\u2019 The other benefit is a shorter development time, with this new Vauxhall SUV coming to market \u2018as early as 2028.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite already having a C-segment SUV with the Grandland, Vauxhall has confirmed that this new model will sit alongside it and not replace it. Brand CEO Florian Huetti also says that, despite some Leapmotor technology and engineering under the skin, \u2018the SUV is designed and created by us at Opel-Vauxhall in Russelsheim.\u2019<\/p>\n

Few other details about the actual new SUV are known yet, but a single image shows a conventionally shaped SUV that will evolve the brand\u2019s design language.<\/p>\n

Stellantis has also said that its deeper ties with Leapmotor may mean the Chinese brand allocates production of a new vehicle at the Stellantis plant in Madrid, confirming that the Citro\u00ebn C4 hatchback<\/a> would end production there in the next two years.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
