The producer of Mortal Kombat II<\/a> has hit out at critics who, in his words, have either never played the games upon which the movie is based, or are unaware of the rules and canon of the franchise.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

With a 73% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, Mortal Kombat II is one of the highest-rated video game movies of all time, behind only 2024\u2019s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and 2021\u2019s Werewolves Within. IGN\u2019s Mortal Kombat II review<\/a> returned an 8\/10. We said: \u201cThe bar for video game movie sequels isn\u2019t very high, but this one not only clears the bar, it twirls it around like a bo staff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Todd Garner took to X \/ Twitter<\/a> to bemoan some reviews he clearly felt unfairly criticized the game. One reviewer, he said, was \u201cmad that a guy had a laser eye.\u201d This is a clear reference to the veteran Mortal Kombat character Kano, who is famous for his laser eye.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of these reviews are cracking me up,\u201d Garner began. \u201cIt\u2019s clear they have never played the game and have no idea what the fans want or ANY of the rules \/ canon of Mortal Kombat. One reviewer was mad that a guy \u2018had a laser eye!\u2019 Why the f**k do we still allow people that don\u2019t have any love for the genre review these movies! Baffling.\u201d<\/p>\n
