Modern Adventure Cycling \u2014 the first new American cycling team in more than a decade \u2014 won its first race appropriately enough on home roads.<\/p>\n
Samuel Fl\u00f3rez kicked to victory Sunday in the final stage of the Tour of the Gila to give the upstart U.S. team its first win in its debut season.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur first road victory, our first road 1-2 and on home soil,\u201d the team wrote on social media.<\/p>\n
The result caps a busy spring for the George Hincapie-backed team, which has been racing across Europe and the Middle East, collecting podiums, breakaways, and consistent top finishes.<\/p>\n
That the victory came in the five-day U.S. stage race in the Tour of the Gila \u2014 one of the longest running races in domestic racing \u2014 confirms the team\u2019s commitment to race both domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe always wanted to be focused on racing in the U.S., and the Tour of the Gila has done an amazing job keeping this race going, so for us it was a big deal for us to come to support the race,\u201d Hincapie told Radio Tour US<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s super important to race in the U.S. We want to help elevate the level of racing in the U.S. as much as we can, so whatever races that fit into our program, that\u2019s one of the biggest goals for our team.\u201d<\/p>\n The team recently raced at the Redlands Classic and finished off the Tour of the Gila with a bang.<\/p>\n Modern Adventure Cycling also won the team GC, the best young rider jersey with Fl\u00f3rez, and second overall with Kieran Haug.<\/p>\n Veteran Brazilian Henrique da Silva Avancini, 37, (Localiza Meoo-Swift Pro Cycling) took the men\u2019s GC, and Lauren Stephens (Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment) won two stages and overall for the third year in a row.<\/p>\n Following big invitations to race the Volta a Catalunya and Paris-Roubaix this spring, the team\u2019s European calendar continues this month with the Tro-Bro L\u00e9on on May 10 and Tour de Hongrie on May 13-17.<\/p>\n Other European dates later in the season include the Tour of Slovenia (June 17-21), Sibiu Cycling Tour (July 4-7), PostNord Tour of Denmark (July 29 to August 2), and the Czech Tour (August 13-16).<\/p>\n Back in the U.S., the team is set to race the revived Philadelphia Cycling Classic p\/b AmeriGas on August 30 and the Maryland Cycling Classic from September 5-7.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n [analyse_source url=”https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/modern-adventure-american-cycling-first-victory\/”]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [analyse_image type=”featured” src=”https:\/\/velo-cdn.outsideonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/horizonMAP2.jpg”] Andrew Hood Updated May 4, 2026 05:26PM Modern Adventure Cycling \u2014 the first new American cycling team in more than a decade \u2014 won its first race appropriately enough on home roads.
