Kamilla Aaseb\u00f8 vowed she will make it to the velodrome after she suffered a brain hemorrhage and multiple fractures in a harrowing crash at Paris-Roubaix Femmes.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old spent 10 days in a French hospital after she was left with a brain bleed and fractures to her elbow and jaw in a pile-up last month in the notorious cobblestone monument.<\/p>\n

Aaseb\u00f8, who rides with Uno-X Mobility, said this week that she\u2019s back in Norway and thinking of the bumpy road to recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy stay in France ended up being a lot longer than expected,\u201d Aaseb\u00f8 on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, the bleeding on the brain became worse quite quickly, which meant I needed emergency surgery. I also had surgery to fix fractures in my elbow and jaw, but thankfully all surgeries went well.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter 10 slow days in Lille \u2013 but only five that I can remember \u2013 I\u2019m very happy to finally be back in Oslo at Ullev\u00e5l Hospital. Right now, the main focus is regaining movement in my right leg after the brain injury, and I\u2019m ready and excited to begin the road to recovery,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Aaseb\u00f8 came down with USA\u2019s Chlo\u00e9 Dygert and several others on the Orchies cobblestones three weeks ago at Paris-Roubaix.<\/p>\n

She was immediately taken to hospital in nearby Lille, and didn\u2019t make it out for some time.<\/p>\n

After initially being diagnosed with what was called \u201ca small bleed,\u201d the condition worsened, and Aaseb\u00f8 was forced to undergo emergency surgery.<\/p>\n

Images Aaseb\u00f8 shared in her post reveal a huge scar that snakes from her ear to the crown of her head.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crash itself was not especially dramatic,\u201d Aaseb\u00f8 wrote. \u201cI was simply very unlucky with the outcome. But once it became that serious, I\u2019ve also been very lucky with how well things have gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aaseb\u00f8\u2019s crash comes in the context of a renewed push to improve safety in racing.<\/p>\n

Team Decathlon-CMA CGM and PicnicPost-NL are both working on airbag systems which could help reduce the severity of crashes.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a new move by the UCI to make GPS tracking mandatory for all riders.<\/p>\n

The Uno-X Mobility team uses Sweet Protection helmets with Mips technology. The \u201cMulti-directional Impact Protection System\u201d is designed to reduce rotational movement of the head in the event of a crash.<\/p>\n

Paris-Roubaix 2026 was Aaseb\u00f8\u2019s first run at the \u201cHell of the North.\u201d She promised it won\u2019t be her last.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne day, I will make it to the velodrome in Roubaix,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
