If you\u2019re a fan of the Ferrari Purosangue<\/a> but are of the opinion that Maranello\u2019s first ever four-door, four-seat V12 needs a little… more<\/em> \u2013 Purosangue-er? \u2013 then we have welcome news. This is the Handling Speciale. No, it’s not that<\/em> kind of speciale.<\/p>\n

Instead, it is an optional goodie bag of treats that enhance the specification of the admittedly excellent Purosangue to make it sharper, a bit louder and more engaging. It\u2019s not the first time Ferrari has rolled out an HS pack of course, because it gave the old California a pair of compression leggings a long, long time ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The headline here is a calibration tweak on the not-an-SUV\u2019s active suspension \u2013 a very complicated setup that bolts an e-motor onto each hydraulic damper \u2013 reducing body roll by 10 per cent versus a non-HS pack-equipped Purosangue.<\/p>\n

The tighter suspension results in a car that, says Ferrari, delivers \u201ca distinctly more compact feel\u201d, and \u201creacts more directly to driver inputs\u201d. Better for when you\u2019re slinging it around a few bends, basically.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Then come quicker \u201cand more decisive\u201d gear changes, especially in \u2018Race\u2019 and \u2018ESC-Off\u2019 modes, though TopGear.com suspects the Purosangue\u2019s eight-speed dual-clutcher knows exactly what it\u2019s supposed to be doing.<\/p>\n

Still, the revised code inside that \u2018box now means that when in manual mode, the shifts apparently become \u201cmore sporting at medium-to-high engine speeds above 5,500rpm\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking of engine speeds, the gearbox tweak is coupled with a new dedicated setting that delivers more \u201cpronounced\u201d in-car sound when you fire up the naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre \u2018lug, and when you floor it. This is a V12, remember, that uses the cylinder heads from the 812 Competizione<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s but a handful of visual aids on offer to distinguish HS Purosangues vs non-HS cars: new wheels, new carbon fibre side shields, matt black exhaust tips, a black Prancing Horse emblem at the back, and a satin-finished Ferrari \u2018script\u2019 and interior plaque.<\/p>\n

TopGear.com anxiously awaits the Ferrari Purosangue-est.<\/p>\n
