Spring\u2019s biggest hair trend has clearly emerged, and it\u2019s a classic. It started (at least this year) with Hailey Bieber\u2019s extensions and bright highlights<\/a>; then, Katie Holmes\u2019 honey-colored bob<\/a>, followed by Jennifer Love Hewitt<\/a>\u2019s dimensional shades of golden and yellow. That\u2019s right \u2014 this season, everyone is going blonde. And the latest addition to the list of flaxen-curious is one of the most famous brunettes of her generation: Dakota Johnson.<\/p>\n

On April 23, Johnson graced the red carpet at the TIME 100 gala<\/a> in a flowing Maison Valentino gown and her trademark long lengths and curtain bangs \u2014 but this time, her signature hairstyle bore a significantly lighter base, with both golden and icy blonde highlights woven throughout.<\/p>\n

The color change came courtesy of her longtime colorist, Tracey Cunningham. Cunningham, Schwarzkopf Professional\u2019s U.S. creative director of color and technique, took inspiration from the \u201cBessette Blonde<\/a>\u201d movement to create Johnson\u2019s \u201cDirty Blonde,\u201d a look \u201cthat blends cool, creamy tones with a subtle brunette undertone at the root,\u201d per a statement from the brand. Along with the darker roots, lighter tones were concentrated at the mid-lengths and ends, while brighter pieces were placed around the face for framing.<\/p>\n

To achieve the look, Cunningham utilized Schwarzkopf ambassador Kari Hill\u2019s \u201cFoiled Cashmere\u201d technique. Named after the sweaters of the same name \u2014 which are famous for their tight weaves \u2014 the technique utilizes foiling and gradient toning to create natural, seamless dimension.<\/p>\n
