A crossover movie based on the Django\/Zorro comic book co-written by Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner is reportedly in development.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/u><\/a> reports that a film for the unlikely pairing is officially a go at Sony. Although Man on Fire and 42 scribe Brian Helgeland has been picked to write the crossover movie, details on a director remain unclear.<\/p>\n

The Django\/Zorro movie is said to be in early development for now and is expected to follow the comic series it’s based on. Although Tarantino is currently not attached to the film in a formal capacity, he is said to have given his blessing for it to move forward at Sony. Additional plot details, a release date, and casting information are currently unknown.<\/p>\n

Django Unchained<\/a> is a 2012 movie by Tarantino that tells the story of a freed slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) in 1858 as he sets off on a mission to save his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). The masked swordsman known as Zorro, meanwhile, has roots that date back to the early 1910s, with his history in film starting not much longer after. The vigilante has continued to appear in dozens of projects since, with highlights that include 1998’s The Mask of Zorro<\/u><\/a> starring Antonio Banderas, as well as a 2024 Prime Video show.<\/p>\n

The two first crossed paths in Tarantino and Wagner’s comic book, simply called Django\/Zorro, in 2014. At the time of the comic’s announcement<\/a>, Tarantino said, “It was reading [Wagner’s] Zorro stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting new chapter for both characters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Minds in Hollywood have supposedly mulled over a movie based on the meeting of Django and Zorro for quite some time but had put the brakes on the project by the time of the pandemic rolled around in 2020. The rights are said to be all squared away now, though, leaving a clear way forward for two of the most iconic names in movies to cross paths.<\/p>\n
