\n\t\u201cI believe the Canary Islands are a key point, and that anyone who understands where I come from also understands my career\u2019s processes and stages much better,\u201d Quevedo tells Billboard Espa\u00f1ol<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBaifo\u201d is the term used in the Canary Islands to describe a baby goat, a word that is very present in the daily life of the islands. The album also plays with the idea of \u201cGOAT\u201d \u2014 as in \u201cgreatest of all time.\u201d \u201cI would love for people to feel what I feel when they listen to the album and to understand where I come from,\u201d the artist adds.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat intention resonates throughout the set, which moves through various moods: from celebration to reflection, and to deeply personal moments. El Baifo<\/em> navigates this emotional range from the very beginning, with an energy tied to festivity and an identity that doesn\u2019t need to be explained. Songs like \u201cAl Golpito,\u201d featuring Canarian group Nueva L\u00ednea, take us into a recognizable space: celebration, family, local festivals. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMi Balc\u00f3n\u201d slows things down and provides one of the most introspective moments. With the timple<\/em> as its foundation, the song is inspired by a very specific image \u2014 Canarian balconies. \u201cThey\u2019re something very typical here, with a unique architecture. The song talks about a little bit of everything but from a place of nostalgia,\u201d Quevedo explains.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn \u201cLa Graciosa,\u201d a merengue track, Quevedo collaborates with Elvis Crespo. In the Canary Islands, Crespo\u2019s music is a staple during carnival celebrations, giving the collab a special weight. \u201cElvis is a legend. He\u2019s someone who knows our history; he\u2019s been visiting the islands for years,\u201d Quevedo says. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFor me, it\u2019s a dream to have recorded with him,\u201d he adds. \u201cWe\u2019re from completely different generations, but at the same time, he connects with everyone. Mothers adore him. His music has been passed down from generation to generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNi Borracho\u201d \u2014 which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard<\/em>\u2018s Spain Songs chart \u2014 falls into that same celebratory space while maintaining its ties to Quevedo\u2019s roots. For the artist, both that track and \u201cLa Graciosa\u201d serve as \u201ca celebration of being from here and an embrace of the islands.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe closing song is \u201cHijo del Volc\u00e1n,\u201d featuring Los Gofiones, a traditional Canarian music group founded in 1968. Here, the album shifts to a more intimate place. \u201cI feel like it\u2019s a union of generations of Canarians\u2026 the end of a very beautiful circle,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the track, the artist delves into what he\u2019s experienced in recent years and the things he\u2019s still trying to make sense of. \u201cI think it\u2019s cool to make such an honest track\u2026 I also talk about how I\u2019ve adjusted to this life,\u201d Quevedo concludes. \u201cI still have my anxieties in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n
