Of course you do. The visuals for the third single off <\/span><em><span>Lemonade <\/span><\/em><span>\u2013 which turns 10 today \u2013 see the singer strutting down a city street in a yellow gown. Wielding a baseball bat, she smashes car windows, fire hydrants, and security cameras as she goes, leaning into the \u201ccrazy\u201d persona that appears across the visual album. But she\u2019s not the first to commit vandalism in the name of art.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In 1997, the Swiss artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/art-photography\/article\/47384\/1\/8-visionary-female-artists-who-revolutionised-video-art\">Pipilotti Rist<\/a> debuted <\/span><em><span>Ever Is Over All<\/span><\/em><span>, a projection that shows a woman in a blue summer dress, smashing car windows as she walks down a city street. Ok, there were some notable differences: for one, Rist is committing vehicular assault with an oversized torch lily, not a baseball bat, and a simultaneous video shows slow motion close-ups of the flower. Plus, the only sounds are a slow, simple melody and the occasional blast of shattering glass, <\/span><em><span>not <\/span><\/em><span>an instant-classic reggae track that interpolates the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and \u201cTurn My Swag On\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That said, there are some obvious parallels, including the wanton destruction of parked cars, the jaunty, carefree attitude of the performers, the sharp feminist overtones, and the joy and\/or indifference of onlookers. In fact, this was enough to see Beyonc<\/span><span>\u00e9 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/music\/news\/beyonce-accused-of-stealing-pipilotti-rist-s-visuals-for-hold-up-music-video-a7010966.html\"><span>accused<\/span><\/a><span> of plagiarism when \u201cHold Up\u201d was first released.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Is <\/span><span>Beyonc<\/span><span>\u00e9 really guilty of copying Pipilotti\u2019s homework? We may never know. The singer, alongside video director <\/span><span>Jonas \u00c5kerlund and overarching <\/span><em><span>Lemonade <\/span><\/em><span>filmmaker Khalil Joseph, haven\u2019t publicly acknowledged the link between the two. Rist never released an official statement either, and, unlike others, didn\u2019t <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/music\/news\/beyonce-sued-for-allegedly-ripping-off-short-film-for-lemonade-s-hbo-trailer-a7072036.html\"><span>seek to sue<\/span><\/a><span> the billionaire musician for seemingly lifting from her work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In fact, some commentators have suggested that the artist would have found the reference \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/heres-looking-at-pipilotti-rist-ever-is-over-all-87077\"><span>extremely gratifying<\/span><\/a><span>\u201d given her love of music videos and \u201cMTV clips\u201d.
