Striking sonically and visually, the artist is intentional and innovative, continually shape-shifting her sound and everything that surrounds it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following 2024\u2019s excellent full-length record, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/2LznuzPtonWQoBR525OyLC?si=aThmk2jbQzaTTM7LRn1RrA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sad Lovers And Giants<\/a><\/em>, she returns with some of her best work to date in the form of a five-track EP, \u201cAnatomy of a Cry\u201d. It\u2019s a carefully curated and endlessly engaging collection of cuts that gives the sense of depth beyond the simple construction of a song. Murray is a musician who delves into all art forms in her process, amalgamating a plethora of influences to build a world and explore each shade of her inner colour wheel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So what <em>did <\/em>influence Murray? What is creatively significant to her right now? I really fell in love with Sindee. Sindee isn\u2019t just chaotic for the sake of chaos\u2026she\u2019s living inside that rush we all know: smiling, raging, laughing, falling apart. My song \u201cTangerine\u201d is about her, and a little about me, ahaha.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Tjaikovskij<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><em>Symphony No. 6<\/em>. He also wrote <em>Swan Lake<\/em>. <em>Queer<\/em>. For my EP, \u201cAnatomy of a Cry\u201d I could have find a more poetic wording for it, but I\u2019m questioning the mechanical links of our emotions. I found the name of the project when I\u00a0 was watching my first ever concerto in Stockholm, where my friend Boerd plays double bass. In the first minutes of the show, I started crying; it was like it was mechanical. And this was the symphony they were playing<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Aretha Franklin\u00a0\u2013 \u201cNight Life\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Yes \u2013 a big moment was when I re-heard that song 2 years ago. I remembered how soul and jazz touched a place in my heart so deeply, made me remember how I wanted to show that part of me in the next project.\u00a0And the song itself is just so for the emotional party girls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Arthur Jafa\u00a0\u2013 <em>Love Is The Message, The Message Is Death<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The first thing I saw entering the Bourse du Commerce last summer was this video. The piece touched me so much that I couldn\u2019t see the rest of the exposition after that.\u00a0It touched me in a very familiar way. My dad is African American. Growing up in France with this heritage was very difficult, because it\u2019s felt inexistent. People are quite ignorant and don\u2019t really understand where my blackness comes in \u2013 hours of explanation and explaining how my culture is still mine. And how I was raised as a Black American, and how much pain and beauty we have built through centuries. That video touched a place called home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Banksy \u2013 The Joy of Not Being Sold Anything\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This is when I started thinking about how I wanted this project to come out independently. I was tired of having strings attached to my music, and my name was out in this world, and I couldn\u2019t have full control over how to sell myself.\u00a0And I started thinking that the way labels promote us is all wrong \u2013 trying to force feed humans \u2013 it does work at some level, but where does art stand?<\/p>\n<p>The challenge is to not be little the place that art has in our society, in our political movements, but instead to champion it for generations to come.\u00a0If we can operate with sincerity and reach into one another through innovative mediums, performance art can find its place in the now, in the fleeting, and in the years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archetypemag.com\/what-is-an-archetype\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Archetypes<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like\u2026\u2026Nepo Baby?\u00a0Moving to London opened a new world that I didn\u2019t know \u2013 the world of nepotism. There\u2019s a certain irony in my writing that I really let out in this project. There\u2019s a space where I feel like nepo babies are really outside here in London \u2013 they\u2019re not scared to be a clich\u00e9 of something that has already been done. I find it interesting. I like writing about archetypes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>My Crying Map<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DW6BoWEjSkA\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My post with all my friends crying.<\/a> When I was thinking about promoting this project with Clara, this was such an important moment in the rollout, showing that crying is universal, emotional, funny, scary. Showing through the lenses of others was super important to me\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/publicdelivery.org\/cyprien-gaillard-recovery-of-discovery-kw-institute-for-contemporary-art-berlin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><br \/>Cyprien Gaillard \u2013 The Recovery of Discovery, 2011.\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love a piece that becomes something else with the interaction of people, isn\u2019t that like what life is?
