\">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s the new KB 2.0,\u201d he reiterates in a phone call. \u201cI\u2019m excited about music again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThat implies that he\u2019d lost his passion, an interpretation that Brown confirms, though he avoids the details behind his previous downturn. Somewhere along the line, he laced up the boxing gloves and got his blood pumping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe last three years, I wasn\u2019t excited, but I got lucky with some songs like \u2018Backseat Driver\u2019 and \u2018Miles on It,\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cIt was just something that I was battling with and I [started] going back to boxing, getting my competitiveness and excitement back, and just getting off my butt, not being lazy anymore. I\u2019m excited to be back in the studio, writing songs and [getting] back on the road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen he returned to the road this year on Feb. 27 at Harrah\u2019s Casino in Laughlin, Nev., the set list included \u201cWoman\u201d for the first time. He\u2019d known since the day he wrote it that he would be singing it for years to come. It was new to the audience, but his fans didn\u2019t seem to mind its unfamiliarity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe crowd loved it,\u201d he says. \u201cEverybody was moving around. I didn\u2019t know the words yet, but they were jamming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThat\u2019s understandable. The track has the energy of a Bryan Adams classic, a comparison that Brown hadn\u2019t made. But it doesn\u2019t surprise him either. \u201cI feel like you could listen to this song and play Shania Twain\u2019s [Man!] I Feel Like a Woman!\u2019 and then [Cyndi Lauper\u2019s] \u2018Girls Just Want to Have Fun\u2019 and [Whitney Houston\u2019s] \u2018I Want to Dance with Somebody\u2019,\u201d he says. \u201cI feel like it fits in with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-youtube\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWoman\u201d arrived during a 2025 songwriting retreat at a rented house in Mt. Juliet, Tenn., a suburb on the eastern edge of Nashville. Brown had already written several songs on that particular day with four comrades: Taylor Phillips (\u201cFavorite Country Song,\u201d \u201cHurricane\u201d), John Byron (\u201cLast Night,\u201d \u201cAin\u2019t a Bad Life\u201d), Ashley Gorley (\u201cI Am Not Okay,\u201d \u201cYou Should Probably Leave\u201d) and Ben Johnson (\u201cBulletproof,\u201d \u201cTruck Bed\u201d). As they finished one of those songs, Brown hunted down some grub in the kitchen, and he ended up recalling a previous moment when a friend had asked him to go for drinks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI just remembered being with my boy on the back porch, and he was trying to get me to go out to a bar,\u201d Brown says. \u201cI was just looking at my wife through the window, and I was like, \u2018Why would I go out and be y\u2019all\u2019s wing man, when my wife\u2019s right here? I\u2019d rather spend time with her.\u2019 It just gave me that idea.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt translated into a key hook \u2013 \u201cThey talkin\u2019 \u2018bout girls\/ But I got a woman\u201d \u2013 and his co-writers were enthusiastic right away. They wrote a repetitive chorus around that idea, threading six occurrences of \u201cI got a woman\u201d (four by the lead singer, two call-and-answers from a background vocalist), but shifting at the end of that refrain to a self-assessment: \u201cShe got a man.\u201d The implication, of course, is that his wife is a full-grown adult, but so is the male singer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTo be able to pull off the multiple statements in a song that\u2019s as ear-wormish and as hooky as that one, man, it\u2019s the hardest song to write,\u201d Phillips says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt was not, however, that difficult on that day. \u201cIt happened so fast,\u201d Phillips notes. \u201cIt was like an hour, we were done. It was just a story that was real as could be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPulling the verses together was easy, too. Brown\u2019s experience of turning down a night on the town provided the opening scene \u2013 they just needed to make it rhyme. After that, the second verse\u2019s focus was obvious: if the woman was that great, they needed to put the spotlight on her. \u201cSometimes one woman\u2019s better than all the girls in the world,\u201d Phillips says. \u201cWe had to put the significance of her in that second verse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBefore it was over, they inserted a three-line bridge that summarized the theme, then shifted into one last run-through of the chorus. Johnson oversaw the demo, creating a sing-along instrumental riff that ended with two cheery, ascending triplets, and it cemented their belief in the song. \u201cWe knew immediately that this one was going to be the next single,\u201d Brown says. \u201cWe were fired up about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrown recorded it on Dec. 11 at Blackbird in Nashville with an A-list team assembled by producer Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Riley Green), using Johnson\u2019s work as the template. Brown was insistent that it needed a fiddle, so Huff hired Stuart Duncan to layer on top of the signature lick Johnson had created. Huff also piled roughly 10 guitar tracks onto \u201cWoman,\u201d though he did it in a way that respected the basic words and melody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI felt good about this record because I didn\u2019t put too much s\u2013t on it,\u201d Huff says. \u201cNormally, it\u2019s so easy to put so much stuff on it, [but] there\u2019s a lot of space. Even where the fills come in, there\u2019s a lot of space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn post-production, Huff played a soaring, arena-rock solo after the second chorus, and kept the line going all the way through Brown\u2019s vocal performance on the bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThat\u2019s the rock, \u201880s-style stuff,\u201d Huff says. \u201cIf you get something that elevates, you don\u2019t just drop off. But you have to play around the vocal lick. In rock \u2018n\u2019 roll, nobody cares, you know. But for me, as long as it supports the melody \u2013 probably the hardest part, is getting something that keeps that energy going without distracting from Kane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrown and his team had some concerns about the signature lick \u2013 the triplets at the end were so hooky that he feared it might feel too much like a 1980s TV theme. Huff and mixing engineer Jeff Braun gave them a version without that lick, but they ultimately decided not to fight its sing-along quality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a lick that\u2019s been played 100 times in pop music,\u201d Huff says, \u201cbut it\u2019s public domain and it\u2019s hooky as hell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrown\u2019s performance with the band during the tracking session had all the energy they needed for the final recording, and that\u2019s the vocal that appears on \u201cWoman,\u201d logged at No. 18 on <em>Billboard<\/em>\u2019s Hot Country Songs dated March 28 and at No. 30 on the parallel Country Airplay list.
