While David Ellison\u2019s company managed to outmaneuver Netflix in its bid to take over the veteran studio, there are still hoops to jump through before the two megacorps will officially become one mega-megacorp. And in the time that remains before it becomes official, some of Hollywood\u2019s biggest names in movies and TV are speaking out against it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose my-8 -mx-5 xs:max-w-xs xs:mx-auto\"><\/div>\n<p>The statement, published on the New York Times and BlockTheMerger.com, begins as follows:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAs filmmakers, documentarians, and professionals across the movie and television industry, we write to express our unequivocal opposition to the proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger.<\/p>\n<div class=\"od-wrapper od-wrapper-both  od-background\">\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Mobile_Pos1\" class=\"Mobile_Pos1 od-mobile\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Content_1\" class=\"Content_1 od-desktop\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">This transaction would further consolidate an already concentrated media landscape, reducing competition at a moment when our industries\u2014and the audiences we serve\u2014can least afford it. The result will be fewer opportunities for creators, fewer jobs across the production ecosystem, higher costs, and less choice for audiences in the United States and around the world. Alarmingly, this merger would reduce the number of major U.S. film studios to just four.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It continues to expand on those concerns, speak to the importance of competition, and support the efforts of California Attorney General Rob Bonta and others who have voiced legal concerns about the merger. Then, you can see all the names who\u2019ve signed, including the immediately recognizable likes of Denis Villeneuve, Ben Stiller, Bryan Cranston, David Fincher, JJ Abrams, Kristen Stewart, Rose Byrne, Noah Wyle, and over 1,000 others.<\/p>\n<div class=\"od-wrapper od-wrapper-both  od-background\">\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Mobile_Pos2\" class=\"Mobile_Pos2 od-mobile\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Content_2\" class=\"Content_2 od-desktop\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Damon Lindelof <em>(Lanterns)<\/em>, who\u2019s never shy about sharing his feelings on social media, added even more context to his decision to add his name, noting that he\u2019s worked with Ellison in the past and doesn\u2019t have a bad impression of him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"od-wrapper od-wrapper-both  od-background\">\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Mobile_Pos3\" class=\"Mobile_Pos3 od-mobile\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"optidigital-adslot-Content_3\" class=\"Content_3 od-desktop\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, he also points out that the merger will be especially harmful for the \u201cthousands and thousands of Grips and Gaffers. Drivers and Decorators. Builders and Boom operators.
