Until now, however, the firm has only sold its cars in four European countries: Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Norway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Lawrence Hamilton, president of Lucid Europe, says the firm has so far only \u2018dipped its toe in the water\u2019 in the region, but it has bigger plans. By 2026 it hopes to be present in 11 European countries, including France and Sweden, before growing to 18 by \u20182027+\u2019, which will include the UK.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u2018We are looking at the UK as a really strong opportunity,\u2019 says Hamilton. \u2018But it will need the right product, and the right product is the mid-size platform. That\u2019s our primary focus for the UK and other right-hand-drive markets. The Earth will be a more conventional premium SUV to rival the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/car-reviews\/tesla\/model-y-suv\/\">Tesla Model Y<\/a>, with the Cosmo set to be a more rugged and adventure-ready EV. Both are expected to enter production at the end of 2026, with a reveal planned for a similar time. A third mid-size, believed to be a saloon, will follow later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton added that he \u2018definitely\u2019 wanted Lucid to sell in the UK, citing it as the second largest car market in Europe and its high electric car adoption rates, though he wouldn\u2019t yet reveal a launch date.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019re already engaging with potential distributions routes and channels and we\u2019re relatively open to finding the right model for the right market. But it\u2019s super competitive, so it\u2019s very important that when we go to the UK, we get it right first time.\u2019<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Following the Lucid Air, the American EV brand, which is majority owned by the Saudi Arabian government\u2019s Public Investment Fund, is now just launching its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carmagazine.co.uk\/car-reviews\/lucid\/2026-gravity-suv\/\">Lucid Gravity<\/a> (pictured below) into Europe. Hamilton wouldn\u2019t completely rule out a UK launch, but given it\u2019s another large and expensive model that will remain niche, the business case to make it RHD looks unlikely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/480x0\/091-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-259707\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/480x0\/091-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/720x0\/091-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/1040x0\/091-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Lucid believes the advantage its mid-size models will have over the competition are its electrical efficiency and lower operating costs, with Hamilton saying he was confident its models would have \u2018among the lowest cost of ownership in the industry\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Its new medium-size models will also be the first produced at its factory in Saudi Arabia. Currently the factory, which aims to establish the country as an automotive producer, is only used for the final assembly of the Air and Gravity, but its medium-size models will start and finish production at the site, close to Jeddah. European Lucids will be made in Saudi, while US models will continue to be manufactured in Casa Grande, Arizona.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Hamilton says that Europe is the \u2018primary market\u2019 for its new medium-size models.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In theory, on paper, the European opportunity is bigger than the US one, so now we\u2019re building our distribution in the region.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/480x0\/090-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-259706\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/480x0\/090-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/720x0\/090-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/259702\/1040x0\/090-lucid-uk.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We want to get it right first time because there\u2019s no point launching in a market and then having to withdraw, and we\u2019ve seen lots of other OEMs that have joined the European Union recently that have changed their business model and approach multiple times. And the market doesn\u2019t like that, customers don\u2019t like that, residual values don\u2019t, and neither do the banks.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton joined Lucid in December 2024 after being managing director of Genesis Motor Europe, so he\u2019s no stranger to niche luxurious and premium brands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject hide-for-medium-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But what\u2019s going to set Lucid apart?\u00a0\u2018At Lucid we believe strongly that product is king and the old rules of the jungle apply, which is if you make the best car and the foundation pieces of the distribution are there, then you will start carving out a role for yourself in the market.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/258525\/480x0\/078-lucid-gravity.jpg?scale=down\" alt class=\"wp-image-258553\" data-interchange=\"[https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/258525\/480x0\/078-lucid-gravity.jpg?scale=down, (default)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/258525\/720x0\/078-lucid-gravity.jpg?scale=down, (medium)], [https:\/\/car-images.bauersecure.com\/wp-images\/258525\/1040x0\/078-lucid-gravity.jpg?scale=down, (large)]\"><\/figure>\n<div class=\"mpu-inject show-for-medium-up hide-for-xlarge-up\">\n<div class=\"mpu-ad advert\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>While Lucid has a big task on its hands to its hands to expand in Europe \u2013 in 2025 it sold fewer than 350 cars in the region \u2013 Hamilton says the brand\u2019s exclusivity will remain a \u2018key selling point\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Familiarity breeds contempt and then people want to move on and try something different. Our volume ambition will not get us to that point, we always want to retain a degree of exclusivity.
