w128axg5 b1fzgn0z\">\n<p>While most independent opinion polls in the run-up to Sunday&#8217;s election had Peter Magyar&#8217;s right-leaning Tisza party comfortably ahead of incumbent Viktor Orban&#8217;s nationalist Fidesz, it was not initially clear if Tisza would secure a two-thirds majority in parliament.<\/p>\n<p>With most of the votes counted, Tisza is set to receive 138 seats in Hungary&#8217;s 199-seat parliament, or five seats more than the two-thirds needed to push through substantial reforms, including ones requiring constitutional amendments.<\/p>\n<p>The qualified majority in parliament allows Magyar to more easily proceed to make good on his campaign promise to fire key Orban-appointed officials that he argues have captured Hungary&#8217;s independent institutions, as well as push through other <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/hungarys-orban-plans-transparency-law-to-muzzle-critics\/a-72571703\">reforms to restore checks from Hungary&#8217;s national electoral bureau.<\/p>\n<p>With over 98% of the vote counted, Tisza secured 138 seats in Hungary&#8217;s 199-seat parliament after having gotten around 53,5% of the vote, amounting to over 3 million voters.<\/p>\n<p>Outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orban&#8217;s nationalist Fidesz party \u2014 which had previously ruled for 16 successive years \u2014 is poised to take 55 seats in parliament with 37.95% or 2.2 million votes, making it now the largest opposition party.<\/p>\n<p>The far-right Our Homeland Movement (MHM) is to net 6 seats with nearly 5.8% of the vote.<\/p>\n<p>The center-left Democratic Coalition (DK) and the satirical Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party (MKKP) got 1,2% and 0.8% respectively, far below the 5% threshold needed to enter Europe.] Back together!&#8221; he said. &#8220;Glorious victory, dear friends!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hungary and Poland have traditionally been close allies in the Visegrad group of states within the European Union, but <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/poland-hungary-how-two-close-allies-came-to-be-estranged\/a-71530372\">relations had been increasingly strained between Warsaw and Budapest<\/a> over outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orban&#8217;s critical stance toward EU support for Ukraine in the face of <a class=\"internal-link\" conservative Tisza party on their election win and declared that this was the end of <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/hungary-orban-and-opposition-trade-barbs-ahead-of-election\/a-76737567\">clientelism under incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orban<\/a>, a common charge\u00a0levied against his government by the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The DK&#8217;s failure to get any seats paves the way for an entirely right-leaning Hungarian parliament, with Orban&#8217;s nationalist Fidesz poised to become the largest opposition party.<\/p>\n<p>The only other party that is set to enter parliament is the far-right Our Homeland Movement (MHM), which is projected to net some 7 seats with
