She then upset former world No 3 Elina Svitolina and second seed Aryna Sabalenka to reach the final.<\/p>\n<h2>WTA News<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/alex-eala-seven-top-50-players-impressive-wta-125-tournament\">Alex Eala among seven top-50 players in impressive WTA 125 tournament field in Spain<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/alex-eala-reveals-impact-toni-nadal-coaching-lost-my-mind-confession\">Alex Eala reveals impact of Toni Nadal coaching with \u2018lost my mind\u2019 confession<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She faced Emma Raducanu in what was a battle of the teenagers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/news\/a-look-at-emma-raducanus-run-to-us-open-glory\">it was the Brit who came out on top<\/a> with a straight-set win.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/leylah-fernandez\">Fernandez<\/a> broke into the top 30 of the WTA Rankings on the back of that run while the successful defence of her Monterrey title and a quarter-final appearance at Wimbledon in 2022 saw her reach a career-high No 13.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian has since managed to win another three titles with her most recent trophy at the Japan Women\u2019s Open last October, but her inability to enjoy deep runs at the majors and WTA 1000 events has prevented her from cracking the top 20 again.<\/p>\n<h2>WTA Rankings And Form<\/h2>\n<p>Fernandez is currently at No 24 in the rankings while Eala sits at No 46.<\/p>\n<p>But Fernandez has not made a good start to the 2026 campaign as she is 4-9 for the year, as she has suffered five opening-round defeats, while her most recent tournament was the Charleston Open where she lost 6-3, 6-0 in the second round against Diana Shnaider.<\/p>\n<p>Eala, meanwhile, is 14-8 so far this season with her best run a semi-final appearance at the ASB Classic while she also reached the last eight of the Philippine Women\u2019s Open (WTA Challenger Tour), the Abu Dhabi Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The Filipina\u2019s last outing was at the Linz Open where she lost in the second round against Jelena Ostapenko with the Latvian winning 6-4, 7-5.<\/p>\n<h2>When Is The Match?<\/h2>\n<p>The first-round encounter is set for Monday, 13 April, but the order of play is still to be confirmed by organisers.<\/p>\n<p>But Eala and Fernandez are likely to be the main match on the day, especially with the top four seeds Rybakina, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek and Svitolina only starting their campaigns in the second round.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Article End --><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who will Alex Eala face in first round of Stuttgart Open?
