As it turns out, he didn\u2019t stop at one\u2014he pitched Barbara Broccoli two different times. The first goes back to 2008, where he wanted to give Bond a \u201cparallel franchise\u201d set in the 60s. It\u2019d have been \u201cR-rated, violent and sexy,\u201d and while it caught some interest it wasn\u2019t enought to move forward. Last year,\u00a0<em>Andor <\/em>showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed he and Soderbergh almost worked together on a <em>Bond <\/em>idea, and it sounds like this is what that\u2019d have been.<\/p>\n<p>Flash forward years later after\u00a0<em>Skyfall,<\/em> Soderbergh came back with a \u201ctwofer\u201d: he didn\u2019t just want to do his 60s James Bond movie, he also wanted to direct a Daniel Craig era flick, too. \u201cI was like, \u2018I want to do both, I have ideas for both,&#8217;\u201d he told The Playlist. As he recalled, he\u2019d only agree to doing both movies, or neither of them. By his own admission, it was \u201ca little aggressive,\u201d but clearly something he felt strongly enough about. Later in the interview, he acknowledged the \u201cperiod piece Bond\u201d angle could\u2019ve become a way for other filmmakers to have fun with the character and period, but said it wasn\u2019t the focus of that pitch. He just really wanted a \u201chardcore auteur low-budget, period Bond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Things never came to fruition, but it\u2019s interesting to note fans online have talked about wanting a period piece James Bond movie separate from Soderbergh\u2019s original idea.
