Squads will be doing final recon rides on Thursday and Friday to gauge real-time conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The race\u2019s last truly miserable and muddy edition came in 2021, when the <em>pav\u00e9<\/em> turned notoriously slick and treacherous.<\/p>\n<p>On paper, brutal wet conditions would favor hardened classics specialists like Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it\u2019s wet, cyclocross skills become essential, and riders like Wout van Aert or Mathieu van der Poel are generally more comfortable than him on the cobbles in those conditions,\u201d Gouvenou said. \u201cWe can assume that Mathieu van der Poel still has a slight edge over Poga\u010dar on this terrain.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Five days out, the weather gods appear to be smiling on the peloton ahead of the women\u2019s, men\u2019s, and junior races all set for Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>There is a chance of overnight showers late Saturday and early Sunday that could slightly dampen the cobbles, but no major rainfall is expected.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the weather is never the whole story at Paris-Roubaix.
