You can sum up life on the road with one phrase: Hurry up and wait<\/em>. Henry Redcliffe<\/a> is used to it by now. The London-based photographer has traveled the world capturing acts like Caroline Polachek<\/a>, Kelly Lee Owens<\/a>, and, most famously, Charli xcx<\/a>: Eagle-eyed fans could spot his flurry of red curly hair running around at Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center to get the<\/em> shot on both the Sweat<\/a> and Brat<\/a><\/em> tours. Now, he\u2019s joining Lily Allen<\/a> as she brings her group-chat-exploding album West End Girl <\/em>to fans across the U.K., and soon, the U.S..<\/p>\n

In 2026, it\u2019s no longer enough to have local photographers pop up at your shows and capture the vibe; a dedicated, traveling photographer is the standard for getting the shots that will populate your favorite diva\u2019s morning-after Instagram dump. But the job, Redcliffe explains, is about more than just making content \u2014 it\u2019s about capturing the tone of the show and translating it for everyone, both lucky ticketholders and far-away fans included. \u201cLily gives so much raw emotion during the performance, so the main aim is to capture that,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The show itself might be the easiest part of his day: \u201cThat\u2019s when it kind of goes into autopilot, Redcliffe says. \u201cAfter a few shows, I find it quite easy to remember what happens where and when in regards to moments worth capturing.\u201d So what does he do with the rest of his time? In the spirit of NYLON\u2019s On Tour series<\/a>, where we document the rushes and lulls of backstage life, we flipped the script and asked Redcliffe to give us his own road diary. He snapped a few pictures of the team\u2019s day exploring Cardiff, Wales, and gave us a rundown of his deadlines (he usually turns an edit back within an hour of a show ending), his less-is-more approach (\u201cYou don\u2019t want to spend every waking second sticking a camera in someone\u2019s face\u201d), and his tricks for fending off boredom (card games help \u201cpeople to actually be social with each other and not just fall into doom scrolling mode\u201d). They\u2019re exceptional at getting the crowd ready, playing instrumental renditions of Lily\u2019s discography in a sort of elevated karaoke with everyone singing along.\u201d<\/p>\n
