What was fluttering out Tadej Poga\u010dar\u2018s jersey during Sunday\u2019s implosion on the Molenberg at the Tour of Flanders?<\/p>\n

No, he wasn\u2019t sitting down for some of Belgium\u2019s famous ribs, and it wasn\u2019t some marginal-gains wizardry. It turns out it was something much simpler.<\/p>\n

Arm warmers, that\u2019s all.<\/p>\n

Flanders delivered its usual chaos across 278km. The race was punctuated by cold winds, brief showers, and then flashes of sun.<\/p>\n

Riders were constantly adapting to the conditions, but once the race ignited with more than 100km to go, there was no chance to drift back to the car and ditch layers.<\/p>\n

So Poga\u010dar simply stuffed them into his jersey.<\/p>\n

The bulge and flapping cloth sparked online chatter, but there was no secret tech behind it this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was his arm warmers,\u201d teammate Florian Vermeersch told Sporza<\/em>. \u201cWhen it rained, I asked if Tadej wanted mine, but he had some himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The world No. 1 is ready for everything.<\/p>\n

The Koppenberg lived up to its menacing reputation Sunday, with nasty crashes before and after the hulking monster in the women\u2019s and men\u2019s races.<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s race, Kim Le Court Pienaar and Marlen Reusser were the biggest casualties.<\/p>\n

Le Court Pienaar suffered a fractured wrist and is set for surgery, and is ruled out of the Ardennes classics.<\/p>\n

Reusser came off worse, with the Movistar Team captain sustaining a fracture to a lumbar vertebra, with the team putting no timeline on her return.<\/p>\n

The men\u2019s race also saw its unfortunate crashes, with Matteo Trentin and Magnus Sheffield crashing out after coming off the Koppenberg.<\/p>\n

No Roubaix for Remco \u2014 yet (we think)<\/h2>\n

Remco Evenepoel won\u2019t be lining up at Paris-Roubaix this weekend despite a podium debut at the Tour of Flanders.<\/p>\n

The Olympic champion lit up De Ronde with third place and hinted he\u2019d like to race the Hell of the North someday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll leave an opening,\u201d Evenepoel said on Sporza. \u201cI think others may have already closed the door completely. We\u2019ll have to talk about it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

For now, that door stays firmly shut.<\/p>\n

Team officials at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe said Evenepoel will stick to his original roadmap with the Ardennes.<\/p>\n

That means the Amstel Gold Race on April 19 is next, followed by Li\u00e8ge-Bastogne-Li\u00e8ge, with a possible start at La Fl\u00e8che Wallonne still under consideration.<\/p>\n

Or maybe there will be another final-hour reversal, like the team\u2019s April Fools Flanders release that seemed to rub some the wrong way.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s been some amazing footage making the rounds from Sunday\u2019s Flanders.<\/p>\n

Like this, this, and this.<\/p>\n

Perhaps nothing was as impressive as the fans chanting Wout van Aert\u2019s name on what looked like the Paterberg on the final climbing sector of the race.<\/p>\n

Fans sang out his name until he came barreling past to finish fourth, just off the podium. Moving stuff.<\/p>\n
