A wet Tuesday into Wednesday storm brings the only meaningful snowfall of the next several days across Japan, with the cleanest reset in Hokkaido and the best upper mountain returns in central Honshu.<\/strong> Confidence is highest from Tuesday afternoon through late Wednesday, when timing is well aligned across the guidance even though totals still vary with the snow line. Expect denser snow at lower elevations, somewhat better quality higher up, and then a quick shift back to milder, mostly dry spring conditions after the storm pulls out.<\/p>\n

Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday is the clear feature in this forecast.<\/strong> The models are converging well on widespread precipitation arriving Tuesday afternoon, peaking Tuesday night, and tapering through Wednesday, with wind impacts also fairly consistent on exposed ridges. Snow levels during the storm look mostly 300 to 500 meters in Hokkaido and 600 to 900 meters across central Honshu, with brief higher pushes that trim lower-mountain accumulation. That keeps the still-open Hokkaido hills in the best position for a real refresh, while upper terrain at Okushiga, Naeba, Nozawa, Madarao, and Gala Yuzawa does better than lower elevations farther south.<\/p>\n

Snow quality should improve with elevation, but this is mostly a dense spring refresh rather than a cold powder cycle.<\/strong> SLRs<\/a> cluster around 8-10 in Hokkaido and 7-10 at most Honshu resorts, which supports dense snow, while Okushiga looks better around 10-14 for more moderate quality. Totals are where the models diverge more: Kiroro has the clearest path toward 20 centimeters, Naeba and Okushiga can get close to 10 centimeters, and several other upper mountains land in the mid single digits. Hakuba looks notably lighter because snow levels spend more time close to its lower mountain, and exposed Tohoku ridges stay windy enough for a rougher lift experience at times.<\/p>\n

After Wednesday night, the forecast trends back toward a quieter spring pattern.<\/strong> Model agreement improves again on a mostly dry stretch for Honshu from Thursday into early next week, with upper mountain readings climbing back above freezing almost everywhere and surfaces turning more springlike after the fresh snow settles. The main disagreement is over Hokkaido this weekend, where some guidance tries to squeeze out a minor northern refresh while other solutions keep it dry, so only a few centimeters is realistic there for now. Beyond that, snowfall signals stay weak, while periods of ridge wind remain more notable than any new accumulation.<\/p>\n
