On Tuesday Cam Jones set a new fastest known time (FKT) on the White Rim trail<\/a> in Moab, and according to sponsor Scott Bikes, he decided to make the attempt on a last minute whim. His time of 5:23:27 bests the previous FKT of 5:28:21, set by Keegan Swenson in 2021<\/a>, by nearly five minutes.<\/p>\n

A press release announcing the feat notes that Jones called fellow Scott Bikes athlete Hannah Otto and the White Rim women\u2019s FKT record holder<\/a> the night before to get some tips for his attempt.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven before I ever came to the U.S., I\u2019d heard the legends of the White Rim Trail,\u201d Jones said \u201cIt\u2019s not only an iconic mountain bike adventure, but also a route with a deep history of FKT attempts that I\u2019ve followed throughout my career. It\u2019s incredibly special to see my name alongside, and ahead of, some amazing athletes. Next time, though, I\u2019d like to slow things down a bit and take in the views.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 100.56-mile White Rim loop FKT is a popular proving ground for mountain bike athletes. In addition to the men\u2019s and women\u2019s records, there\u2019s also a fastest known time for riding it on a tandem bike (9:58:14) and singlespeed (7:50:50). It\u2019s a fast route with roughly 7,400 feet of climbing, though very little technical terrain. <\/p>\n

Even though this was Jones\u2019 first time riding roughly 90% of the route, he still managed to set Strava KOMs on multiple segments, including Hardscrabble Climb. Jones\u2019 rode a Scott Spark RC World Cup mountain bike equipped with drop bars for his ride.<\/p>\n

Twenty-five-year-old Jones, who is from New Zealand, earned a wildcard entry into last year\u2019s Unbound gravel race and went on to win the race, setting a record time in the process. He went on to become the 2025 Lifetime Grand Prix champion and will compete at the Sea Otter Fuego XL race later this month in Monterey, California. <\/p>\n
