The 23-year-old pro reportedly hit a rock while he was riding in Catalonia, causing him to collide with a car.<\/p>\n
He was then airlifted to a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n
Guarde\u00f1o\u2019s Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team confirmed the news Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cJaume Guarde\u00f1o suffered a fall while training on Tuesday after his recent participation in the Volta a Catalunya. He was involved in a collision with a vehicle, resulting in serious injuries,\u201d read the note.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result of the accident, the cyclist from Alicante, a resident of Caldes de Montbui, was urgently transferred by helicopter to the Taul\u00ed Hospital in Sabadell, where he remains in the ICU with serious injuries and awaiting further evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n
According AS, Guarde\u00f1o is now stable and being monitored. The Spanish outlet described him as suffering a \u201csevere head injury.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guarde\u00f1o is considered a hot prospect of Spanish cycling.<\/p>\n
The pocket climber hit 14th in his grand tour debut last year at the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a. He was slated to ride the Tour de France this summer after Caja Rural was handed a wildcard invite.<\/p>\n
