In response, both resorts plan to build additional restroom facilities outside of the lodges for guests who don’t want to pay. These will presumably be functional, efficient, and completely lacking in chandeliers. It’s a compromise that keeps basic services available while preserving the quieter, less crowded indoor experience for those who opt in.

Meanwhile, inside the lodges, the experience is expected to reach new heights. Sources suggest the resorts will introduce personal bathroom butlers to assist guests with paper towels, offer a selection of fragrances, and provide lotions to combat that dry mountain air. Early rumors indicate they may also offer encouraging affirmations about your skiing ability and attire, though that remains unconfirmed.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get more refined, both resorts are also said to be upgrading every stall with “smart seat” bidets, designed specifically for skiers and snowboarders. Because let’s be honest, navigating layers, suspenders, and bibs in a standard bathroom setup is already an Olympic event. These high-tech seats will reportedly feature heated surfaces, precision controls, and a “quick turnaround mode” to keep you dry and clean and able to make it back out to the lift before their friends send the “where are you?” text.

A Shift in Ski Culture?

This kind of move reflects a broader trend across the ski industry. Resorts are experimenting more with ways to manage crowding and protect premium experiences, whether through parking reservations, limited ticket sales, line skipping privileges, early resort access, premium experiences, or now, paid lodge access.

Related: Are ‘Premium Ski Pass Add-Ons’ Coming to More Alterra-Owned Resorts?

At places like Snowbasin and Sun Valley, where the lodge experience is a major part of the brand, this may be less about charging for bathrooms and more about controlling access to high-demand indoor space. Still, it raises a bigger question: how much of the ski day should be included in the price of a lift ticket? For now, the answer at these two resorts is clear. The skiing gets you on the mountain.
