and it&#8217;s about the current status of the long-awaited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/square-enix-celebrates-final-fantasy-9s-25th-anniversary-so-wheres-the-rumoured-remake\">Final Fantasy 9 remake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is one project we keep hearing about from time to time, yet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/companies\/square-enix\">Square Enix<\/a> appears to be nowhere near ready to unveil it, or even confirm its existence. At least not for now. &#8220;The last update I had on it is that the game is still on ice,&#8221; he briefly said. Like Push Square&#8217;s Stephen Tailby points out, &#8220;on ice&#8221; is very specific wording here, so no official cancellation might have happened. Sometimes, publishers are interested in certain games and willing to push them across the finish line, yet choose to relocate resources in order to prioritise more important projects.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the success of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/final-fantasy-vii-remake\">FF7 Remake<\/a> trilogy (which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/final-fantasy-7-remake-3-will-not-compromise-on-graphics-whatsoever-despite-move-to-multiplatform-release\">set to be finished soon-ish<\/a>), we&#8217;d be shocked if Square Enix never went back to one of the most beloved Final Fantasy games, but the publisher admittedly has a lot on its plate right now. With some big veterans pointing out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/final-fantasy-release-cadence-failing-to-entice-enough-new-fans-says-yoshi-p\">the wait times between new mainline entries have also gotten ridiculously long<\/a>, another possible explanation is that executives are now looking to put more resources into such projects in order to captivate the younger generations versus an aging fanbase.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"injection_placeholder\" data-position=\"1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rumours of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eurogamer.net\/games\/final-fantasy-ix\">FF9<\/a> remake originated from the infamous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2021\/09\/nvidia_issues_statement_on_possible_list_of_leaked_games_used_for_internal_tracking_and_testing\">Nvidia leak<\/a> that happened earlier this decade.
