Giannis Antetokounmpo\u2019s longest-tenured teammate with the Milwaukee Bucks thinks the two-time NBA MVP should not \u2014 and will not \u2014 return to the court this season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019ll play another game this year, for sure,\u201d Bucks forward Bobby Portis said<\/a> during one of his regular appearances on FanDuel TV\u2019s show \u201cRun It Back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, he\u2019ll stay in the gym and keep his body tight and keep his game tight,\u201d Portis said. \u201cBut playing a game on court, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s in the picture at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Antetokounmpo has appeared in only 36 games this season due to various injuries and has missed Milwaukee\u2019s last seven contests since hyperextending his left knee. As The Athletic\u00a0<\/em>first reported<\/a>, Antetokounmpo wanted to play again and rejected the idea of getting shut down for the season when the organization approached him about the possibility following his knee hyperextension.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old Portis, who is finishing his sixth season with the Bucks, told his fellow panelists that the team\u2019s current situation means it \u201cdoesn\u2019t really make sense\u201d for Antetokounmpo to play in any of the Bucks\u2019 final eight games. On Saturday, the Bucks (29-45) were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust being smart as a pro, right now, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s smart for him to play,\u201d Portis said. \u201cObviously, business-wise, it doesn\u2019t really make sense, right? We\u2019re out of the race. We can\u2019t make the playoffs. We can\u2019t even make the Play-In (Tournament). So, right now, there isn\u2019t any reason for him to be out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Portis\u2019 comments are the latest development in what has turned into an ongoing saga regarding Antetokounmpo\u2019s availability for the remainder of the season. Six days after The Athletic <\/em>reported on Antetokounmpo and the Bucks being at odds over his health, the National Basketball Players Association released a statement<\/a> asserting that Antetokounmpo is healthy and the Bucks were keeping him from getting back on the floor.<\/p>\n
