standout player of the Miami Open women\u2019s singles draw, and it came as no surprise to see her lift the title on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-prize-money-ranking-coco-gauff-miami-open\">A hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over world No 4 Coco Gauff saw Sabalenka defend her title at the WTA 1000 event<\/a>, becoming the first woman since Ashleigh Barty in 2021 to successfully retain the title in Miami. However, triumph for the world No 1 also saw her complete the \u2018Sunshine Double for the very first time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-elena-rybakina-prize-money-ranking-points-indian-wells-open\">with Sabalenka having lifted the title in Indian Wells just a fortnight before her Miami success<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Completing the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 \u2014 winning Indian Wells and Miami in the same season \u2014 is one of the toughest tasks in tennis, and Sabalenka is now part of an exclusive club.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-rankings-serena-williams-record-miami-open-win\">Aryna Sabalenka eyeing up Serena Williams all-time rankings record after Miami Open win<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/carlos-alcaraz-schedule-insiders-reveal-world-no-1s-clay-court-tournaments\">Carlos Alcaraz schedule: Insiders reveal world No 1\u2019s clay-court tournaments<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Who has previously achieved it?<\/h2>\n<p>Before 2026, seven different men had achieved the feat, though it has been less common on the WTA Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Since the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 became possible in 1989, only four separate WTA players had achieved it before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\">Sabalenka<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Like the Belarusian, all four who have done it before are world No 1\u2019s and multiple-time Grand Slam champions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steffi Graf (1994 and 1996)<\/strong>: All-time great <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/steffi-graf\">Graf<\/a> was the first woman to achieve the Sunshine Double and remains the only woman to do it twice, completing the feat in both 1994 and 1996.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kim Clijsters (2005)<\/strong>: After injury struggles in 2004, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/kim-clijsters\">Clijsters<\/a> surged back towards the top of the WTA by beating Lindsay Davenport in the Indian Wells final, before victory over Maria Sharapova in Miami.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Victoria Azarenka (2016)<\/strong>: One of the leading hard-courters of her generation, former world No 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/victoria-azarenka\">Azarenka<\/a> memorably beat Serena Williams to lift the Indian Wells title in 2016, and backed that up by defeating Svetlana Kuznetsova in Miami.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iga Swiatek (2022)<\/strong>: Current world No 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Swiatek<\/a> remains the last player \u2014 male or female \u2014 to do the double for now, beating Maria Sakkari to triumph in Indian Wells in 2022, before a Miami Open final win against Naomi Osaka.<\/p>\n<h2>Can Sinner follow suit?<\/h2>\n<p>Sabalenka sealed her \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 on Saturday, and now ATP world No 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Jannik Sinner<\/a> will look to complete the feat himself on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Much like Sabalenka, Sinner lifted the Indian Wells title for the first time a fortnight ago, beating Daniil Medvedev.<\/p>\n<p>And, the Italian\u2019s rampant form has continued in Miami, with the world No 2 not yet to drop a set across either Masters 1000 final.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner is the heavy favourite to defeat 21st seed Jiri Lehecka in Sunday\u2019s championship match, and should he prevail, he would become the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to complete the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 \u2014 and the eighth overall.<\/p>\n<p>Should the Italian prevail, it would also be the first time since Novak Djokovic and Azarenka in 2016 that a male and female player have completed the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 in the same year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
