He rode the bunch off his wheel and soloed to the line 52 seconds ahead of the chasing Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM).<\/p>\n<p>It was a brutal show of climbing force that put the 29-year-old firmly in control of the race\u2019s classification.<\/p>\n<p>Those hoping to beat \u201cThe Iceman\u201d at the Giro d\u2019Italia in May should consider themselves warned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t feel the best in the beginning, but I felt very, very good on the last climb,\u201d Vingegaard said at the finish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting to make such a difference on that last climb,\u201d he continued. \u201cI was feeling really strong. And that was certainly still OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce the groups formed, I had a few kilometers where I wasn\u2019t suffering. Maybe there was more I could have gotten out of it, but this is still a good result for the team,\u201d Evenepoel said Friday from the Pal summit.<\/p>\n<p>Evenepoel will be facing more questions about his climbing capacity on Friday afternoon.
