The Detroit Pistons are bringing back bully ball. Pure, physical, unabashed, smash-mouth hoops. And they know it.<\/p>\n

Pistons fans are certainly familiar with this type of physical team.<\/p>\n

The 1980s Detroit Pistons were famous for their \u201c<\/span>Jordan Rules,\u201d in which they would constantly hit His Airness. They did it so much that they popularized the moniker \u201cBad Boys.\u201d That physical toughness was a big reason Detroit won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990.<\/p>\n

Fast-forward to the early 2000s, and the second iteration of the Bad Boys Pistons was born. While everyone remembers the dark side of that aggression\u00a0in the \u201cMalice at the Palace<\/a>,\u201d those Pistons, led by Chauncey Billups, technical-foul<\/span> legend Rasheed Wallace, NBA Defensive Player of the Year Ben Wallace and feisty wings Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, embodied that same physical style.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a throughline between those two past Pistons teams \u2014 and this third version of the Bad Boys Pistons, which currently sit atop the Eastern Conference. It would only be fitting if, like Pistons teams of the past, Cade Cunningham and crew push their way to a championship this season with their staunch defense.<\/p>\n
