but added that the fundamentals of the Indian economy are strong and will weather the &#8220;unprecedented challenges&#8221; posed by the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the lower house of Parliament, Modi highlighted that the Iran war was affecting global markets and supply chains, noting India&#8217;s heavy <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/india-news-second-lpg-tanker-reaches-india-amid-shortage\/live-76388602\">reliance on the region for crude oil, gas<\/a> through key trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The situation in West Asia is worrisome. This conflict has been going on for more than three weeks,&#8221; the Indian PM said.<\/p>\n<p>However, &#8220;the inherent strength of India&#8217;s economic fundamentals has&#8230; provided significant support to the nation during this period,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>While the government has <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/india-news-nirav-modi-seeks-to-block-extradition-reports\/live-76403539\">taken steps to secure energy supplies<\/a>, including addressing LPG demand and maintaining strategic petroleum reserves, he said, it has also <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/india-news-indians-wont-be-left-stranded-modi-assures\/live-76299102\">facilitated bringing home around 375,000 citizens<\/a> since the conflict began, including around 1,000 from Iran.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech, Modi said that India has trade relations with both &#8220;the warring and war-affected countries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Modi said India was engaging diplomatically and urged for a peaceful resolution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;War is not in the interest of humanity. December after market leader <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/indigo-crisis-clouds-indias-aviation-ambitions\/a-75061966\">IndiGo cancelled thousands of flights<\/a>.This led to a massive spike in fares as\u00a0other air carriers hiked prices on popular routes <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/chaos-as-indian-airline-indigo-flights-severely-disrupted\/a-75011270\">amid the chaos<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The authorities had announced that a one-way economy fare for a journey up to 500 kilometers cannot be more than 7,500 rupees ($83, \u20ac72), whereas for journeys between 1,000 and 1,500 km, such as the New Delhi-Mumbai route, should be capped at 15,000 rupees ($167).<\/p>\n<p>In December, the\u00a0Ministry of Civil Aviation had said that the &#8220;caps will remain in force until the situation fully stabilizes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With the price cap
