href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/india-orders-airlines-to-cap-fares-amid-indigo-traffic-chaos\/a-75044902\">domestic airfare caps<\/a> imposed on flight tickets in December will be revoked on Monday, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bcountry&#8217;s \u200ccivil aviation ministry made the announcement on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The temporary fare caps on domestic air tickets were introduced in December after market leader <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/indigo-crisis-clouds-indias-aviation-ambitions\/a-75061966\">IndiGo cancelled thousands of flights<\/a>.This led to a massive spike in fares as\u00a0other air carriers hiked prices on popular routes <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/chaos-as-indian-airline-indigo-flights-severely-disrupted\/a-75011270\">amid the chaos<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The authorities had announced that a one-way economy fare for a journey up to 500 kilometers cannot be more than 7,500 rupees ($83, \u20ac72), whereas for journeys between 1,000 and 1,500 km, such as the New Delhi-Mumbai route, should be capped at 15,000 rupees ($167).<\/p>\n<p>In December, the\u00a0Ministry of Civil Aviation had said that the &#8220;caps will remain in force until the situation fully stabilizes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With the price cap Court of India on Monday is scheduled to hear challenges against a new privacy law that transparency activists and journalists say could curb access to information.<\/p>\n<p>Four petitions are targeting amendments made through the <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/india-data-law-surveillance-privacy-big-tech-data-protection-press-freedom\/a-74923737\">Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP)<\/a> saying they will lead to &#8220;dilution&#8221; of India&#8217;s Right to Information (RTI) Act.<\/p>\n<p>Petitioners argue the changes would allow officials to withhold information of public interest and undermine transparency.<\/p>\n<p>The government denies the allegations, saying the law balances privacy with the right to information.<\/p>\n<p>Media groups have also raised concerns that the privacy law lacks clear protections for journalists and\u00a0could hinder reporting by requiring consent from subjects of news reports.<\/p>\n<p>The law
