knowing her \u2018truth\u2019 keeps her grounded amidst rapidly growing fame and on-court expectations, attributing the mindset to her familial upbringing.<\/p>\n<p>The Filipina is just 20 years old, but has become one of the most talked-about players on the WTA tour, frequently drawing crowds wherever she walks on tournament grounds.<\/p>\n<p>At last year\u2019s Miami Open, she stunned four seeded players \u2013 including the world No 2 Iga Swiatek \u2013 to reach the last four.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, she fell to American Jessica Pegula in a tight three-set match, but broke into the world\u2019s top 75 (rising 65 places).<\/p>\n<p>Currently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alex-eala\">Eala<\/a> sits as the world No 29, which is a ranking that allows her \u2013 if maintained \u2013 to be seeded at the four Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpinions or expectations can change. That is not in your control,\u201d remarked 20-year-old star during an interview with the WTA website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I know are facts and truths, and the truth is that I\u2019ve been working really hard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I know I\u2019ve been taking the right steps and approaching it in the right way in terms of what I need to do on court. So that gives me more calm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd fortunately, I\u2019ve been doing well between last year\u2019s Miami and this year\u2019s Miami, so I\u2019m in a position where this tournament is not all or nothing. You know what I mean?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot everything\u2019s on the line. It\u2019s just the emotional intelligence to be aware of what I\u2019m going through, and to figure out what mindset is going to help me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are so many different paths you can choose in terms of how to think. So which one will really benefit me? Because in the end, you want to benefit yourself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t want to fight yourself, right?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lay out the options, or the perspectives, on how to look at different things \u2013 \u2018will this make me feel good?\u2019 No. \u2018Will this make me feel good?\u2019 No.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFeeling bad is inevitable, but there are ways that can be lessened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not only does Eala\u2019s age make her on-court results surprising, but her playing style is one that goes against the grain of the current WTA tour.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of relying on pure power, she effectively utilises timing, anticipation, and intelligent shot selection to build pressure, unafraid to change direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could argue that everything I do is to prepare myself for those [power] players,\u201d she analysed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do a lot, but I do it to prepare for all different types of players. I would agree with you that we are in an era of strong-hitting players. I\u2019m in the process of still getting stronger, right?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill being more powerful.
