Avalanche forecasters are carefully monitoring the flow of liquid water in the snowpack, and in several cases, they have already observed weak layers becoming damp. When the critical amount of liquid arrives at these layers is still up in the air, and that uncertainty is reflected in many of the avalanche forecasts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cDon\u2019t entirely trust any of these slopes until temperatures dramatically cool down,\u201d the Colorado Avalanche Information Center forecast said.<\/strong> \u201cEach day, the sun climbs higher in the sky, and the oppressive heatwave sends meltwater deeper into colder snowpacks. Wet slabs release when meltwater reaches and pools at these weak layer interfaces. The exact timing is hard to predict, but our best guess is that it\u2019s happening now,\u201d the Sawtooth Avalanche Center forecast said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bridger Teton Avalanche Center <a href=\"https:\/\/bridgertetonavalanchecenter.org\/observations\/#\/view\/observations\/5e4e3db4-ffad-4eed-9de7-cfe2ec2faeed\">received an observation<\/a> of a wet slab avalanche that appears to have released naturally.<\/strong> To the North, the Big Sky Ski Patrol <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtavalanche.com\/observations#\/view\/avalanches\/0a8b1147-fb28-4b53-ab56-fdd1ccaa4363\">reported a backcountry avalanche<\/a> that could have been a wet slab released by rockfall.
