Sam Querrey has claimed that both Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka were \u201cunderpaid\u201d for their Indian Wells victories, questioning the prize money on offer at the prestigious event.<\/p>\n<p>WTA world No 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/aryna-sabalenka\">Sabalenka<\/a> and ATP world No 2<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\"> Sinner<\/a> both lifted the Indian Wells title for the first time on Sunday, with the duo winning hard-fought finals to prevail at the combined ATP-WTA 1000 tournament.<\/p>\n<p>After two previous Indian Wells final losses,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/aryna-sabalenka-elena-rybakina-prize-money-ranking-points-indian-wells-open\"> Sabalenka saved a championship point to beat leading rival Elena Rybakina in an instant classic<\/a>, beating the Kazakh 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) in the first final of the day.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a Medvedev named third-best player right now ahead of Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-prize-money-ranking-points-indian-wells-win\">That was then followed by Sinner battling past a resurgent Daniil Medvedev in the men\u2019s singles final<\/a>, with the Italian claiming a 7-6(6), 7-6(4) victory over his fellow former world No 1.<\/p>\n<p>Equal prize money was on offer in Indian Wells this year, with Sabalenka and Sinner each rewarded with winnings of $1,151,380 for their efforts in Tennis Paradise.<\/p>\n<p>However, despite the tournament being considered one of the biggest \u2014 if not the biggest \u2014 outside of the four Grand Slam events, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/indian-wells-prize-money-set-decrease-2026-stars-demanding-more-winnings\">Indian Wells prize money has decreased in some areas in recent years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve months ago, Jack Draper received $1,201,125 for lifting the men\u2019s singles title at the tournament, around $50,000 more than Sinner received this year.<\/p>\n<p>While Sabalenka\u2019s paycheque was greater than the $1,127,500 awarded to Mirra Andreeva twelve months ago, prize money is not as high as it used to be at the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Both Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina received $1,262,220 for winning the singles titles as recently as 2023, while $1,354,010 was awarded to champions Dominic Thiem and Bianca Andreescu in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nothingmajorshow.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Nothing Major<\/em><\/a>, former world No 11 Querrey questioned the amount of prize money on offer in Tennis Paradise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinner and Sabalenka for winning Indian Wells both got $1.15m,\u201d said Querrey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am convinced they should get $3m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe players are underpaid, I believe they should be getting closer to $3m for winning that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both Sabalenka and Sinner will return to action at the Miami Open this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/what-is-the-sunshine-double-can-jannik-sinner-aryna-sabalenka-achieve-it\">with the opportunity to complete the \u2018Sunshine Double\u2019 present for both players<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/2026-miami-open-what-prize-money-and-ranking-points-will-be-on-offer#:~:text=This%20year's%20men's%20and%20women's,for%20their%20victories%20in%202025.\">The prize money on offer in Miami is exactly the same as it was in Indian Wells last fortnight<\/a>, with the men\u2019s and women\u2019s singles champions both set to take home $1,151,380.<\/p>\n<p>That is a slight increase on the $1,124,380 awarded to Sabalenka and Jakub Mensik for their respective singles triumphs twelve months ago.<\/p>\n<p>WTA world No 1 Sabalenka is the top seed in the women\u2019s draw and will look to defend the title, while Sinner will look to regain the men\u2019s singles title he first won back in 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
