Coupled with his early-season win at the UAE Tour, Del Toro is already racing like a grand tour contender.<\/p>\n<p>Which raises an obvious question: Why isn\u2019t he leading UAE Emirates-XRG at the Giro d\u2019Italia?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl Torito\u201d broke out there last season and has some unfinished business after letting the pink jersey slip away. So far, he\u2019s two-for-two, bringing home huge victories at the UAE Tour and Tirreno-Adriatico.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>After San Remo, he will lead at Itzulia Basque Country and the new-look Tour Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes in June.<\/p>\n<p>By all counts, that\u2019s a world-class calendar for a budding superstar who, by his own admission, is still testing his limits.<\/p>\n<p>So when he does go to the Tour in July, he won\u2019t carry much pressure. He would be the outright leader now on almost every other team.<\/p>\n<p>He chose UAE.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s nothing wrong with playing protege to the sport\u2019s dominant force.<\/p>\n<p>Del Toro himself admits he\u2019s not at Poga\u010dar\u2019s level yet. So why not learn from the best rider of the 21st century and pick up a few wins along the way?<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>After all, the team won nearly 100 races last year with 20 different riders. The team does a good job of spreading around the wealth within the team bus.<\/p>\n<p>Jo\u00e3o Almeida will lead at the Giro, alongside Adam Yates, Jay Vine, and Jan Christen, who promise to make it hard for\u00a0Vingegaard and the Killer Bees.<\/p>\n<p>This is the reality of a sport without spending caps, college drafts, or any other way to balance the playing field.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an open market, and if UAE can offer the best big-money deal, that would be hard for any rider to turn down.<\/p>\n<p>If UAE can offer the best deals, the best riders will sign there. It\u2019s simple economics. Adding Seixas would almost seem like rubbing it in everyone\u2019s faces.<\/p>\n<p>Sending Del Toro to the Tour this summer still feels like a missed opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>But because he rides on the same team as its biggest star, the moment will have to wait.<\/p>\n<p>And even riding in Poga\u010dar\u2019s shadow this summer, it wouldn\u2019t be shocking to see him finish on the podium anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Still, who wouldn\u2019t rather see Del Toro take it straight to Vingegaard at the Giro and see if he can crack him, rather than ride wingman for Pogi in July?<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Del Toro will have to wait his turn.<\/p>\n<p>But for how long?<\/p>\n<p>King Pog will be winning the Tour for another three to four years if he wants, as he swats away any comers.<\/p>\n<p>Del Toro will probably still go bag a Giro and a Vuelta along the way while he waits his turn.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Del Toro\u2019s moment is coming.
