Desirae Krawczyk has revealed her mum is \u201ccrazy\u201d about Alex Eala as she opened up about their shared Filipino heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Rising WTA Tour star<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/alex-eala\"> Eala<\/a> has surged up the women\u2019s game over the past twelve months and has proven a trailblazer for tennis in her country, becoming the first woman from her nation to reach the top 100 of the WTA Rankings last March.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old has since become the first Filipina to reach a WTA Tour final, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/alex-eala-good-learnings-eastbourne-open-heartbreak\">doing so at the Eastbourne International last June<\/a>, and became the first player from her nation to win a Grand Slam main draw singles match at the US Open last September, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/alex-eala-secures-huge-wta-rankings-boost-historic-us-open-win\">beating Clara Tauson in round one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Eala is now set for her latest breakthrough off the back of her maiden Indian Wells campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/wta-rankings-winners-losers-indian-wells-open-rybakina-overtakes-swiatek-eala-4-gibson-45\">with the 20-year-old projected to crack the top 30 of the WTA Rankings for the first time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Among those who know Eala well is Krawczyk, a regular on the WTA doubles tour \u2014 and a four-time mixed doubles Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year-old was born in California and represents the US on tour, though she has Filipino heritage through her mum, who is originally from the country.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCumZfRUQl8r9bwyPG_z1UsA\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Player\u2019s Box Podcast<\/em><\/a>, which she co-hosts with Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, and Jennifer Brady, Krawczyk joked that her mum had split allegiances when both she and Eala were in Dubai Tennis Championships action last month.<\/p>\n<p>Krawczyk said: \u201cMy mum\u2019s Filipino, and she\u2019s like: \u2018Oh, I want to go and watch Alex Eala play, like oh my gosh, I want to watch.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a She\u2019s like: \u2018I\u2019m going to come and watch her when she plays on Thursday,\u2019 and I was like: \u2018Mum, I\u2019m going to be playing on Thursday.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s like: \u2018Oh yes, you too, yes, yes \u2014 I\u2019m going to come and watch you too.\u2019 I was like: \u2018What? Mum, what are you doing?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Krawczyk then revealed that her mum had in fact previously offered to cook Filipino food for Eala \u2014 an offer the 20-year-old was keen to accept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mum went to the US Open last year,\u201d added the doubles star.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlex was obviously huge then, and she was like: \u2018Oh my gosh, I want to see Alex, maybe I\u2019ll get a picture with her, but I also want a picture with Jenny [Brady], I want a picture with everyone.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like: \u2018Ok mum, let\u2019s take it one at a time.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then obviously when she knew Alex was playing at Indian Wells, she\u2019s like: \u2018I\u2019m going to make her pancit\u2019, which is a famous noodle dish in the Philippines, and then Lumpia, which is like these egg rolls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I told Alex about it, and she\u2019s like: \u2018Oh my gosh, I would love that\u2019. And if I tell my mum, my mum will probably make like three big bowls of noodles, so I don\u2019t know if I should give it to Alex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/alex-eala-on-her-learning-experience-in-indian-wells-i-do-leave-with-happiness\">After her Indian Wells campaign was ended in the fourth round by Linda Noskova<\/a>, Eala is set to return to action at the Miami Open this coming week.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old faces some significant pressure at the tournament, with the star defending 390 ranking points from her run to the semi-final twelve months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Krawczyk will also return to action in Miami, following the conclusion of her women\u2019s and mixed doubles campaigns in Indian Wells.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want more from Tennis365?
