I\u2019m extremely happy with it,\u201d Jorgenson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys did an excellent job today and kept me well positioned at the front. That allowed me to save some energy. In the end, that helped me gain time and move up in the general classification. Near the finish I tried to get away from Del Toro, but I couldn\u2019t make it stick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTomorrow brings another final opportunity. I\u2019ll once again aim for the best possible result. Today\u2019s stage definitely gives me a lot of confidence\u201d, Jorgenson said.<\/p>\n<p>Hot off eighth at Strade Bianche, the result confirms a strategic shift for the American in his 2026 spring campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than defend back-to-back titles at Paris-Nice, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider pivoted to Tirreno-Adriatico and the upcoming Ardennes-style classics.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On a savage day across the rolling hills of the Marche region, the gamble paid immediate dividends and sets up a final GC battle against Del Toro going into the weekend.<\/p>\n<h2>Del Toro back into the lead<\/h2>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s 184km stage from Marotta-Mondolfo to Mombaroccio delivered a slashing 4,275 meters of climbing and detonated on the final ascent to Santuario Beato Sante.<\/p>\n<p>UAE Emirates-XRG pushed the pace to isolate overnight leader Giulio Pellizzari, who began the day just two seconds ahead of Del Toro in the general classification.<\/p>\n<p>Del Toro struck midway up the climb with a violent acceleration that immediately split the favorites.<\/p>\n<p>Jorgenson responded to Del Toro\u2019s attacks on the final 4.2km climb averaging 6.2 percent ahead of a high-speed descent and a stinging uphill ramp to the finish.<\/p>\n<p>Magnus Sheffield struggled to hold the pace as the group splintered, but Jorgenson dug deep to stay glued to Del Toro\u2019s wheel as the contenders thinned.<\/p>\n<p>Primo\u017e Rogli\u010d, racing alongside his Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe teammate, offered little help in the chase as the gaps opened.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-placeholder-wrapper relative w-full border-t border-b border-border-light col-span-full my-3 md:col-span-10 md:col-start-2\">\n<div class=\"mb-[30px] min-h-[30px] text-center\"><span class=\"font-utility-4 font-medium tracking-[1px] text-neutral-500 uppercase\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Del Toro kicked to second to reclaim the race lead, while Jorgenson crossed the line third to move up, still 11 seconds behind Pellizzari.<\/p>\n<p>A thrilling GC super team duel between UAE, Red Bull, and Visma-Lease a Bike will play out on Saturday\u2019s grueling stage.<\/p>\n<h2>Valgren snags big win<\/h2>\n<p>Up the road, Michael Valgren powered to an emotional solo victory after dropping Julian Alaphilippe from a late breakaway.<\/p>\n<p>The Dane crested the summit alone and held off the charging favorites to claim his first victory since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all worked so hard for this. I am just speechless,\u201d Valgren said. \u201cIt was a hard start with so many attacks.
