When the first Academy Awards<\/a> were held on May 16, 1929, the ceremony lasted all of 15 minutes<\/a> (the winners had been announced three months prior, to be fair), and Best Actress winner Janet Gaynor \u2014 honored for three different films \u2014 wore fashionably bobbed pin-curls and an ensemble that might best be described as \u201cearly spring lunch at the Country Club chic.\u201d Needless to say, over the many years since, the looks have grown in glamour as much as the ceremonies have grown in duration. Since the 1950s, in particular, the Oscars<\/a> have consistently delivered some of Hollywood\u2019s most iconic beauty moments.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s no exaggeration. Over the last 97 years, Hollywood\u2019s biggest night has given us: Barbra Streisand\u2019s bouffant bob<\/a> in \u201869, Jane Fonda\u2019s blunt shag<\/a> in \u201871, Cher\u2019s romantically curled cascading updo<\/a> in \u201888, and Nicole Kidman pairing burgundy and chartreuse<\/a> in \u201897, long before #BridalTok discovered the pairing, among many other statement-making looks. (And a special shoutout to Joan Crawford, who accepted her trophy while bedridden with an illness \u2014 in a full beat<\/a>, of course.)<\/p>\n
