Last year, it came from all angles: there was the revelation of <\/span><em><span>Emilia P\u00e9rez\u2019s<\/span><\/em><span> star, Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s racist and sexist social media posts, the use of generative AI in <\/span><em><span>The Brutalist<\/span><\/em><span> and the controversy around Sean Baker not using intimacy coordinators (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/film-tv\/article\/66249\/1\/oscars-2025-biggest-snubs-nominations-nicole-kidman-angelina-jolie-challengers\"><span>amongst other things<\/span><\/a><span>) on the set of <\/span><em><span>Anora<\/span><\/em><span>. This year, the drama seems to be mostly surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/timothee-chalamet\">Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>, who came out swinging on the\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Marty Supreme <\/span><\/em>press tour<span>. It started with his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wdPKn4ZwxxA\"><span>2025 SAG Awards speech<\/span><\/a><span>, where he declared that \u201cI\u2019m really in pursuit of greatness\u201d, and ended with him essentially shitting on other art forms, specifically <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/10\/entertainment\/video\/timothee-chalamet-backlash-ballet-opera-lisa-respers-france-digvid\"><span>ballet and opera<\/span><\/a><span>, which has pissed absolutely everybody off. There is something beautiful and even galvanising about wanting to be the best so badly, but when you mess up, the vulnerability of that declaration can make you an easy target \u2014 and Chalamet is learning that the hard way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All that drama aside, here at Dazed, we\u2019re still thinking about those who weren\u2019t nominated. So here is our list of films, actors, and scores we believe have been outrageously snubbed by year\u2019s Academy Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>A<span>$<\/span>AP ROCKY IN<em> IF I HAD LEGS I&#8217;D KICK YOU\u00a0<\/em><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"ywFDoT7LBbQ\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ywFDoT7LBbQ\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>This one may come across as a little rogue \u2013 and dare I say contrarian \u2013 as this person has never been in contention for any major acting awards this season\u2026 but ROCKY ROBBED! The exclusion of Rakim Athelston Mayers from the supporting actor categories this year is nothing short of a disgrace (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bravotv\/video\/6759025211850493189?lang=en\"><span>in <\/span><em><span>my<\/span><\/em><span> opinion<\/span><\/a><span>). His borderline puppy dog performance as James in <\/span><em><span>If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You<\/span><\/em><span> \u2013 constantly vying for the attention of Rose Byrne\u2019s Linda while convincing himself that he\u2019s not \u2013 is the perfect counterpoise to the film\u2019s unrelenting pace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The minor criticism that Rocky received for this role \u2013 that he is, in fact, \u201cjust playing himself\u201d \u2013 is actually a huge compliment. The note is an accusation levelled only at true movie stars, a dwindling group whose effortless charms mean their on-screen selves often seem like an extension of their real life personas. In reality, it takes a lot more acting instinct than you\u2019d think to simply \u201cbe yourself\u201d on film, after a director yells action and there\u2019s multiple cameras pointed at your face. So, once again, in the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role\u2026 ROCKY ROBBED!! <em>(EH)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<h1><span>JENNIFER LAWRENCE IN <\/span><em><span>DIE, MY LOVE<\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n<p>There\u2019s a few people I think were snubbed this year, but this is the only one I feel truly outraged about: Jennifer Lawrence is <em>incredible<\/em> in this film. Playing a woman descending into post-partum depression, she is painfully sympathetic and often very funny, but also willing to lean into the ugliest sides of mental illness, in a performance which pulses with a wild, knife-edge intensity. Lawrence doesn\u2019t just deserve to be nominated, she deserves to win as much as anyone.\u00a0I\u2019m sorry to pit two women, and two friends, against each other, but get Emma Stone outta there!! <span><em>(JG)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"2jzXHW6Qe70\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2jzXHW6Qe70\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<h1><span>GWYNETH PALTROW IN <\/span><em><span>MARTY SUPREME <\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"s9gSuKaKcqM\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/s9gSuKaKcqM\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>I\u2019m not sure I\u2019d die on the hill that Gwyneth deserves to <\/span><em><span>win<\/span><\/em><span> the award for Best Supporting Actress &#8211; maybe it\u2019s not the most complex or demanding role &#8211; but she should at least have been nominated. I was captivated every time she was on screen \u2013 the woman is a damn movie star! <em>(JG)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>DANIEL LOPATIN\u2019S <\/span><em><span>MARTY SUPREME <\/span><\/em><span>SCORE<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"28RWskv-1ks\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/28RWskv-1ks\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Daniel Lopatin (AKA Oneohtrix Point Never) was cagey about his score for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/film-tv\/article\/69326\/1\/josh-safdie-marty-supreme-one-dream-interview-timothee-chalamet-2025\"><em><span>Marty Supreme<\/span><\/em><\/a><span>when he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/music\/article\/69026\/1\/oneohtrix-point-never-daniel-loptin-interview-searching-soul-among-ai-slop\"><span>spoke to Dazed<\/span><\/a><span> late last year, just before the film hit cinemas, but it was worth the wait. Ethereal synths and flutes meet ominous bass meet cosmic choirs meet rogue frog sounds in this criminally overlooked soundtrack. Is it slightly anachronistic? Yes. In fact, it slides some three decades forward in time from the film\u2019s mid-century setting. But it\u2019s not by mistake: the 50s simply couldn\u2019t contain the driving force of Marty\u2019s passion for ping-pong. <em>(TW)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><em><span>NO OTHER CHOICE<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"HKZpuG_ezvY\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HKZpuG_ezvY\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Over the last decade, we haven\u2019t suffered from a shortage of satirical thrillers about how capitalism is bad, but <\/span><em><span>No Other Choice <\/span><\/em><span>really is next level: the story of a desperate, unemployed man man who embarks on a killing spree to thin out the job competition, it\u2019s one of the most visceral depictions of life in a free market economy I\u2019ve ever seen, all delivered with Park Chan-wook\u2019s characteristic elegance. At a time when anxiety about the looming AI jobs apocalypse has reached a fever pitch, it\u2019s rivalled only by <\/span><em><span>One Battler After Another<\/span><\/em><span> in terms of its relevance to the current moment.\u00a0Maybe it\u2019s not the <\/span><em><span>best<\/span><\/em><span> film of the year, but I think it\u2019s quite clearly better than five of the Best Picture nominations (if you must know: <\/span><em><span>F1<\/span><\/em><span>, <\/span><em><span>Frankenstein<\/span><\/em><span>, <\/span><em><span>Bugonia<\/span><\/em><span>, <\/span><em><span>Hamnet<\/span><\/em><span> and <\/span><em><span>Train Dreams<\/span><\/em><span>.) <em>(JG)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>THE ROCK IN <\/span><em><span>THE SMASHING MACHINE<\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"aRpnP3LZ99g\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aRpnP3LZ99g\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>If the <\/span><em><span>F1<\/span><\/em><span> movie can be nominated for best picture (and three other categories), A24\u2019s <\/span><em><span>The Smashing Machine<\/span><\/em><span> deserved more than just its one makeup and hairstyling nomination. May I suggest a best actor nomination for The Rock, who completely transformed himself for this highly emotional slice-of-life story? I know it wasn\u2019t a box office success, but it has the potential to become a cult classic with age. Also, in an award season where <\/span><em><span>Marty Supreme<\/span><\/em><span> is plastered everywhere, I think Benny Safdie also deserves some love for this one.<em> (LP)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>ANYTHING OTHER THAN <\/span><em><span>FRANKENSTEIN<\/span><\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"8aulMPhE12g\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8aulMPhE12g\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Now listen. I have a lot of respect for Guillermo del Toro \u2013 I mean, this is the man who wrote and directed <\/span><em><span>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/span><\/em><span> and <\/span><em><span>The Shape of Wate<\/span><\/em><span>r. He&#8217;s a freaky weirdo, and I love him. But his adaptation of Mary Shelley\u2019s <\/span><em><span>Frankenstein <\/span><\/em><span>was one of the worst films I watched last year, ruined by its horrible pacing, which made it feel long as fuck, and some really poor acting, especially from Oscar Isaac. It actually pains me to write that because I love Oscar Isaac! I also love Christoph Waltz, but the performances felt so flat. The film also felt difficult to get into fully, perhaps because it had a certain Netflix quality, continuously reminding me that I was watching people run around in costumes. Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth were the film\u2019s saving grace \u2013 but that doesn\u2019t mean I think Elordi should be nominated for an Oscar; he shouldn\u2019t have been! And the movie should not be nominated for Best Picture either. I feel like I\u2019m going crazy. Last year, it came from all angles: there was the revelation of <\/span><em><span>Emilia P\u00e9rez\u2019s<\/span><\/em><span> star, Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s racist and sexist social media posts, the use of generative AI in <\/span><em><span>The Brutalist<\/span><\/em><span> and the controversy around Sean Baker not using intimacy coordinators (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/film-tv\/article\/66249\/1\/oscars-2025-biggest-snubs-nominations-nicole-kidman-angelina-jolie-challengers\"><span>amongst other things<\/span><\/a><span>) on the set of <\/span><em><span>Anora<\/span><\/em><span>. This year, the drama seems to be mostly surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/timothee-chalamet\">Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>, who came out swinging on the\u00a0<\/span><em><span>Marty Supreme <\/span><\/em>press tour<span>. It started with his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wdPKn4ZwxxA\"><span>2025 SAG Awards speech<\/span><\/a><span>, where he declared that \u201cI\u2019m really in pursuit of greatness\u201d, and ended with him essentially shitting on other art forms, specifically <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/10\/entertainment\/video\/timothee-chalamet-backlash-ballet-opera-lisa-respers-france-digvid\"><span>ballet and opera<\/span><\/a><span>, which has pissed absolutely everybody off. There is something beautiful and even galvanising about wanting to be the best so badly, but when you mess up, the vulnerability of that declaration can make you an easy target \u2014 and Chalamet is learning that the hard way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All that drama aside, here at Dazed, we\u2019re still thinking about those who weren\u2019t nominated. So here is our list of films, actors, and scores we believe have been outrageously snubbed by year\u2019s Academy Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>A<span>$<\/span>AP ROCKY IN<em> IF I HAD LEGS I&#8217;D KICK YOU\u00a0<\/em><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"src-youtube video-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-youtube\" data-id=\"ywFDoT7LBbQ\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen frameborder height=\"422\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ywFDoT7LBbQ\" webkitallowfullscreen width=\"750\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>This one may come across as a little rogue \u2013 and dare I say contrarian \u2013 as this person has never been in contention for any major acting awards this season\u2026 but ROCKY ROBBED! The exclusion of Rakim Athelston Mayers from the supporting actor categories this year is nothing short of a disgrace (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@bravotv\/video\/6759025211850493189?lang=en\"><span>in <\/span><em><span>my<\/span><\/em><span> opinion<\/span><\/a><span>). His borderline puppy dog performance as James in <\/span><em><span>If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You<\/span><\/em><span> \u2013 constantly vying for the attention of Rose Byrne\u2019s Linda while convincing himself that he\u2019s not \u2013 is the perfect counterpoise to the film\u2019s unrelenting pace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The minor criticism that Rocky received for this role \u2013 that he is, in fact, \u201cjust playing himself\u201d \u2013 is actually a huge compliment. The note is an accusation levelled only at true movie stars, a dwindling group whose effortless charms mean their on-screen selves often seem like an extension of their real life personas. In reality, it takes a lot more acting instinct than you\u2019d think to simply \u201cbe yourself\u201d on film, after a director yells action and there\u2019s multiple cameras pointed at your face. So, once again, in the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role\u2026 ROCKY ROBBED!! <em>(EH)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<h1><span>JENNIFER LAWRENCE IN <\/span><em><span>DIE, MY LOVE<\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n<p>There\u2019s a few people I think were snubbed this year, but this is the only one I feel truly outraged about: Jennifer Lawrence is <em>incredible<\/em> in this film. Playing a woman descending into post-partum depression, she is painfully sympathetic and often very funny, but also willing to lean into the ugliest sides of mental illness, in a performance which pulses with a wild, knife-edge intensity. Ethereal synths and flutes meet ominous bass meet cosmic choirs meet rogue frog sounds in this criminally overlooked soundtrack. Is it slightly anachronistic? Yes. In fact, it slides some three decades forward in time from the film\u2019s mid-century setting. May I suggest a best actor nomination for The Rock, who completely transformed himself for this highly emotional slice-of-life story? I know it wasn\u2019t a box office success, but it has the potential to become a cult classic with age. I have a lot of respect for Guillermo del Toro \u2013 I mean, this is the man who wrote and directed <\/span><em><span>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/span><\/em><span> and <\/span><em><span>The Shape of Wate<\/span><\/em><span>r. He&#8217;s a freaky weirdo, and I love him. But his adaptation of Mary Shelley\u2019s <\/span><em><span>Frankenstein <\/span><\/em><span>was one of the worst films I watched last year, ruined by its horrible pacing, which made it feel long as fuck, and some really poor acting, especially from Oscar Isaac. It actually pains me to write that because I love Oscar Isaac! I also love Christoph Waltz, but the performances felt so flat. The film also felt difficult to get into fully, perhaps because it had a certain Netflix quality, continuously reminding me that I was watching people run around in costumes. Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth were the film\u2019s saving grace \u2013 but that doesn\u2019t mean I think Elordi should be nominated for an Oscar; he shouldn\u2019t have been! And the movie should not be nominated for Best Picture either. I feel like I\u2019m going crazy.
