You thought wrong! <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/pfw\"><span>Paris Fashion Week<\/span><\/a><span> might have finished earlier this week, but the party continued last night in Rome. Yesterday evening (March 12), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/valentino\"><span>Valentino<\/span><\/a><span> took over the Italian capital with its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/aw26\"><span>AW26<\/span><\/a><span> ready-to-wear show, where creative director <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/alessandro-michele\"><span>Alessandro Michele<\/span><\/a><span> paid tribute to the brand\u2019s history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Back in January, Michele showed his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/fashion\/article\/69504\/1\/valentino-ss26-haute-couture-alessandro-michele-paris-fashion-week-pfw\"><span>SS26 Valentino couture show<\/span><\/a><span>, 10 days after the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/fashion\/article\/69443\/1\/fashion-s-italian-emperor-valentino-garavani-has-died\"><span>death of the brand\u2019s founder<\/span><\/a><span>, Valentino Garavani. \u201cThe press release had already been sent to print and all the work was in its final stages, too advanced to be reversed,\u201d wrote Michele in a statement at the time. \u201cToday Valentino&#8217;s absence is real, tangible. It tears open a deep and painful void. Nevertheless, his presence is still warmly felt. In the places he lived, in the gestures he taught, in the way his legacy is skillfully carried forward.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Almost two months after the Italian designer\u2019s death, yesterday evening, Michele delivered a celebratory tribute that acted as a reminder that Valentino\u2019s legacy lives on. As written in the earlier statement, \u201cWe continue to work within this space: not to fill an absence, but to preserve it.\u201d Here\u2019s everything you missed\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>WE GOT READY WITH TYLA <\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Through the pouring rain, a handful of familiar faces still managed to make it to Rome\u2019s 17th century Palazzo Barberini. Shrouded by black umbrellas, brand ambassadors Colman Domingo, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/clairo\"><span>Clairo<\/span><\/a><span> and Mariacarla Boscono all dashed inside, taking their seats front row alongside <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/gwyneth-paltrow\"><span>Gwyneth Paltrow<\/span><\/a><span>, Lily Allen, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/tag\/pinkpantheress\"><span>PinkPantheress<\/span><\/a><span>, Britt Lower and Iris Law. Stay tuned for the full interview on Dazed Fashion\u2019s Instagram page, coming very soon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>WHY ROME? <\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Both Michele and Garavani have strong personal ties to Rome. Garavani was born in a small town in northern Italy, but opened his first boutique in Rome in 1960. Michele on the other hand, was born and raised there. The showspace, Palazzo Barberini, was also a pull for the Roman designer, who was inspired by its architectural friction. \u201cPalazzo Barberini is not an architecture at peace,\u201d read the show notes. \u201cThe building resists any synthesis between order and movement: it lays bare their forced coexistence, their permanent friction, the interferences produced as they overlap.\u201d The baroque palace was designed by pioneering architects Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini, whose contrasting work inspired the name of today\u2019s show: <\/span><em><span>Interferenze<\/span><\/em><span> (interference).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>A TOUCH OF RESTRAINT?<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"d446ccd4-3f02-4daf-9d03-b40c00bb9db6\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441560.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.67\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Valentino AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441560.jpg\" width=\"2000\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Valentino AW26<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Valentino<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Though all the Michele hallmarks were present in this collection \u2013 dramatic silhouettes, frou-frou ruffles and liquid draping \u2013 things were a little more restrained than we usually expect from the designer. On the whole, both the colour palette and fabrications were toned down, especially during the middle third of the collection. Apart from a chevron stripe here and a floral pattern there, prints were few and far between, while blacks, browns, taupes and greys featured heavily throughout. And in comparison to the couture offering in January, the general amount of sequins and sparkle was remarkably less. Perhaps the restraint was out of respect to the late Mr Valentino?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Having said that, this is an Alessandro Michele collection after all, and the designer couldn\u2019t help but inject a little of his signature flair. A shocking pink taffeta suit was the second look out the gates, a bright orange pleated gown was splotched with big silver flowers, while a dramatic bejewelled cape emerged as the penultimate look.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>THE CLOSING LOOK<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"7c5c9eaa-c423-45ce-8193-b40c00bdedd6\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441580.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.67\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Valentino AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441580.jpg\" width=\"2000\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Valentino AW26<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Valentino<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>In January, Michele opened his SS26 couture show with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/fashion\/gallery\/36603\/0\/valentino-ss26-couture\"><span>a plunging, batwing gown<\/span><\/a><span>, rendered in the iconic shade of Valentino Red. The famous colour, also referred to as Rosso Valentino, was first used by Mr Valentino on a strapless tulle dress named \u2018La Fiesta\u2019, for his SS59 collection. Yesterday, Michele closed his AW26 show with a simple and understated cowl-neck column gown, also made in Valentino red. It tears open a deep and painful void. Nevertheless, his presence is still warmly felt. The showspace, Palazzo Barberini, was also a pull for the Roman designer, who was inspired by its architectural friction. \u201cPalazzo Barberini is not an architecture at peace,\u201d read the show notes. \u201cThe building resists any synthesis between order and movement: it lays bare their forced coexistence, their permanent friction, the interferences produced as they overlap.\u201d The baroque palace was designed by pioneering architects Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini, whose contrasting work inspired the name of today\u2019s show: <\/span><em><span>Interferenze<\/span><\/em><span> (interference).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>A TOUCH OF RESTRAINT?<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"d446ccd4-3f02-4daf-9d03-b40c00bb9db6\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441560.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.67\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Valentino AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/1\/1441560.jpg\" width=\"2000\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Valentino AW26<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Valentino<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Though all the Michele hallmarks were present in this collection \u2013 dramatic silhouettes, frou-frou ruffles and liquid draping \u2013 things were a little more restrained than we usually expect from the designer. On the whole, both the colour palette and fabrications were toned down, especially during the middle third of the collection. Apart from a chevron stripe here and a floral pattern there, prints were few and far between, while blacks, browns, taupes and greys featured heavily throughout. And in comparison to the couture offering in January, the general amount of sequins and sparkle was remarkably less. Perhaps the restraint was out of respect to the late Mr Valentino?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Having said that, this is an Alessandro Michele collection after all, and the designer couldn\u2019t help but inject a little of his signature flair. The famous colour, also referred to as Rosso Valentino, was first used by Mr Valentino on a strapless tulle dress named \u2018La Fiesta\u2019, for his SS59 collection. Yesterday, Michele closed his AW26 show with a simple and understated cowl-neck column gown, also made in Valentino red.
