Police<\/a> in the northwestern city of Osnabr\u00fcck on Thursday reported that a 7-year-old boy had been the talk of the class at his elementary school when he flashed a wad of banknotes worth \u20ac5,000 (roughly $5,800) with his friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The nipper from the Osnabr\u00fcck rural district had valuable luggage on hand. No funny money, all totally legal\u00a0\u2014 and only to be looked at,” police wrote of the unusual case<\/a> in Lower Saxony<\/a>. “When do you see so much cash in one pile? In this case, in an envelope.”<\/span><\/p>\n

How had the boy come across the cash?\u00a0<\/h2>\n

It transpired that the boy had come across the envelope at home before school. His parents had withdrawn the money\u00a0from the bank as they intended to buy a car.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The car purchase would have to wait for now. These gorgeous banknotes would first have to be admired by his classmates. And so the envelope migrated into his satchel\u00a0\u2014 and the lad became the most popular kid of the morning,” police said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He let his classmates inspect and even smell some of the banknotes, eventually attracting the attention of his teacher, who alerted police as a precaution on Wednesday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The officer arrived and soon brought light into the dark. The cash was rounded up, put back in the envelope, and returned to the parents. No harm done. Parents happy, sonny happy, classmates abuzz.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
