Scotland’s relentless blackened thrash force Hellripper<\/strong> has unveiled another taste of its upcoming album Coronach<\/em>, releasing the ferocious new single “Mortercheyn” alongside a striking music video directed and edited by David Gregory<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The track comes from Hellripper<\/strong>‘s fourth studio album, Coronach<\/em>, which will arrive worldwide on March 27, 2026 via Century Media Records \u2013 marking the project’s debut on the legendary metal label.<\/p>\n Helmed by mastermind James McBain<\/strong>, Hellripper<\/strong> has built a reputation for fusing black metal savagery with razor-sharp thrash and speed metal influences. According to McBain<\/strong>, “Mortercheyn” continues the more personal lyrical direction introduced on the previously released track “Kinchyle (Goatkraft and Granite).”<\/p>\n “Much like the previously released ‘Kinchyle (Goatkraft and Granite),’ the lyrics on this track come from a more personal place,” McBain<\/strong> explained. “The title itself is a little nod to a track on the previous album, ‘The Nuckelavee,’ and mortercheyn is said to be the disease spread by the creature in its wake.”<\/p>\n He added that the song’s theme centers on a deadly contagion tied to folklore. “It is a contagious and lethal sickness that primarily affects horses, and is used in the song to represent the decay and downfall of the world.”<\/p>\n Musically, McBain<\/strong> describes the track as a crust-driven assault layered with sinister atmosphere: “Musically, ‘Mortercheyn’ is a crust track at its core, drenched in a sinister atmosphere that lies between the black metal vibe of Watain<\/strong> and the raw aggression of bands like Martyrd\u00f6d<\/strong> and Skitsystem<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n The guitarist also pointed to classic thrash and experimental electronic influences shaping the track’s sound. “Hints of Whiplash<\/strong> and Agent Steel<\/strong> are clearly evident in the guitar work and are paired with some uncomfortable ambience inspired by the likes of Aphex Twin<\/strong> and Venetian Snares<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n “On the surface, it may feel like one of the less ‘complex’ songs on the album, but I think there’s quite a lot going on throughout.”<\/p>\n Hellripper<\/strong> will be embarking on a European headliner with support from Schizophrenia<\/strong> and Sarcator<\/strong>.
