Spring is making its way into the Himalayas, meaning the spring climbing season on Mount Everest is officially underway.\u00a0<\/strong>Over the next few months, hundreds will make their way to the mountain nestled on the Nepalese-Chinese border, where they will look to climb Earth\u2019s highest peak (29,032 feet\/8,848.9 meters of elevation) in an exhibition of human endurance, courage, and physical capability.<\/p>\n

Mount Everest saw roughly 800 people reach the summit in 2025, according to the climbing magazine Gripped<\/a><\/em>. <\/strong>This estimated number includes both guides and clients.<\/p>\n

Currently, Icefall Doctors are making their way to base camp, where they will then prepare the route up the mountain.\u00a0<\/strong>Preparation includes fixing ropes and placing ladders throughout the Khumbu Icefall, one of the most treacherous areas of the route. Crossing the icefall typically takes between 5 and 10 hours.<\/p>\n

Icefall Doctors, a type of Sherpa mountaineer, are highly-skilled and responsible for establishing and maintaining the route up Everest.\u00a0<\/strong>Everest will see eight Icefall Doctors this season, who will help climbers navigate the mountain\u2019s most dangerous section from Basecamp to Camp 2.<\/p>\n

Once climbers reach Camp 2, Icefall Doctors return to Base Camp, and climbers are assisted by Sherpas who will guide the rest of the ascent.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Climbing Mount Everest typically takes between 60 and 70 days.\u00a0<\/strong>Climbers typically ascend using the south side of the mountain in Nepal. The south side has five camps, including basecamp and camps one through four.<\/p>\n

The China-Tibet Mountaineering Association has confirmed that the north side will be closed this season for international teams.\u00a0<\/strong>The north side has been closed for five of the last ten climbing seasons due to Chinese restrictions and harsh terrain.<\/p>\n

The commencement of the spring climbing season on Mount Everest is an exciting time for those who want to push the capabilities of mankind.\u00a0<\/strong>It is no secret that each person who attempts to climb will encounter some of the greatest dangers of their lives.<\/p>\n

But for those who have eyes set on reaching Earth\u2019s highest peak, the best time of the year is just around the corner.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
