A large fire near\u00a0Scotland<\/a>‘s busiest train station in Glasgow caused major disruptions on Monday as dozens of services had to be canceled.<\/p>\n

National Rail said that major disruptions were to be expected until the end of\u00a0Monday.<\/p>\n

“Glasgow Central station remains closed following a significant fire in a shop next to the station on Union Street,” ScotRail said in a statement on X. <\/p>\n

What is known about the fire<\/h2>\n

The fire began on Sunday in buildings at Glasgow Central Station and burned through the night and caused\u00a0part of the building to collapse.<\/p>\n

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out at a four-story Victorian commercial building next to the train station.<\/p>\n

“We were alerted at 3.46pm on Sunday, 8 March, to reports of a fire affecting the ground floor of a four-storey commercial building on Union Street, Glasgow,” the firefighting agency said.<\/p>\n

“At its height, nine fire appliances and specialist resources were mobilised to the area, where firefighters are currently working to extinguish a fire affecting the ground floor of a four-storey building,” the agency said, adding that there had been no casualties.<\/p>\n

The Sexy Coffee shop said there had been “a major fire” on its premises and confirmed that the shop had been destroyed in the fire. <\/p>\n

“I am deeply concerned about \u200bthe fire \u2060near Glasgow Central Station tonight and very grateful \u2060to \u200ball of the emergency services who are responding,” Scotland’s first minister, John Swinney said.<\/p>\n

Member of the Scottish\u00a0Parliament Paul Sweeney, said the building had stood for 175 years and that its destruction in 12 hours, was “sickening.”<\/p>\n
