Four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen has announced he will race a Mercedes\u2026 in this year\u2019s N\u00fcrburgring 24hr race.<\/p>\n

Fresh from being whupped over the weekend by the Mercedes-AMG F1 team \u2013 alongside the rest of the grid, tbf \u2013 the Dutch F1 superstar will swap out of his V6 hybrid Red Bull and into a V8 Mercedes-AMG GT to run the famous, terrifying 24hr race in May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe N\u00fcrburgring is a special place,\u201d he said about his new challenge. \u201cThere\u2019s no other track like it. The N\u00fcrburgring 24hr is a race that\u2019s been on my bucket list for a long time, so I\u2019m really thrilled we can make it happen now.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, I was able to get my DMSB Permit Nordschleife and participate in NLS9, that we won.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a strong line-up with Dani (Juncadella), Jules (Gounon), and Lucas (Auer), and great support from Red Bull and Mercedes-AMG Motorsport,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been a fan of the Green Hell for a while as you\u2019ll remember: last year he not-so-secretly tested a Ferrari 296 GT3 under the pseudonym \u2018Franz Hermann\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So it\u2019s not entirely a reaction to this year\u2019s sweeping regulation changes, even if Verstappen had some, let\u2019s say \u2018choice\u2019 words to say after the Australian GP: \u201cIf you enjoy that, OK, but that\u2019s what I do at home and I play Mario Kart<\/em>. For me personally, I didn\u2019t enjoy that. The way that you were racing is not really proper.\u201d<\/p>\n
