by social media ensures fashion shows are dissected at a record rate \u2013 the reaction to last season\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/jean-paul-gaultier\"><span>Jean Paul Gaultier<\/span><\/a><span> show was quite something. Last September, the Dutch designer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/duran-lantink\"><span>Duran Lantink<\/span><\/a><span> made his debut for the house, reviving a ready-to-wear line that had lain dormant for the last 11 years. On the catwalk, Lantink provoked with bulbous proportions, peculiar cutouts and trompe-l\u2019\u0153il bodysuits complete with realistic genitalia. While some applauded his want for disruption, many decried his apparent affront to good taste. Even Lantink himself was surprised by the reaction, saying in a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/fashion-beauty\/duran-lantink-jean-paul-gaultier-interview-ss-2026-debut\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cI knew that criticism would be coming, but not necessarily in the way that it happened.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This afternoon in Paris, Lantink returned for his sophomore collection. After the previous season\u2019s histrionics, anticipation was arguably higher than before. But, in a complete 180 to last September\u2019s flesh-baring antics, the designer presented a (mostly) buttoned-up offering, with full-coverage gowns and tailoring at its core. Because, ultimately,\u00a0 what\u2019s more <\/span><em><span>enfant terrible<\/span><\/em><span> than doing the exact opposite of what everyone expects?<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>WAS THAT MACAULAY CULKIN?<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Gathered together in the Montparnasse neighbourhood, this season\u2019s guest list included the usual mix of global stars. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/tag\/tyla\">Tyla<\/a> was on the front row in a corset dress with a built-in cone bra, sat next to ex-<em>Euphoria<\/em> alum Barbie Ferreira, who wore her own all-black creation from the brand. Elsewhere, the Berlin-based artist LIA LIA chatted to Lennon Gallagher, while Naomi Watts, Tokischa, <\/span><em><span>The Substance<\/span><\/em><span> director Coralie Fargeat and Jean Paul Gaultier himself made up the rest of the frow. More unexpected, however, was the appearance of Macaulay Culkin, who posed for the cameras in his JPG shirt and showed off his sailor blue manicure.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>SUBVERSIVE SUITING FILLED THE CATWALK<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"67a5c63f-1653-44a0-969c-b4070155e875\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440966.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.8\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jean Paul Gaultier AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440966.jpg\" width=\"2400\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Jean Paul <span class=\"nowrap\">Gaultier AW26<\/span><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Photography Jamie-Maree Shipton<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Since his brand\u2019s inception, Jean Paul Gaultier has been famous for taking the humble suit and bending it to his will. 1980s power suits were carved into hourglass silhouettes, corsets and tailoring were expertly combined in the 90s, while pinstripe is practically synonymous with the house. It made sense, then, that Lantink started this collection with simple tailoring \u2013 a black suit underneath a long pleated overcoat \u2013 then proceeded to splice and dice it throughout the show. For the second look, the blazer had morphed into a bomber jacket hybrid, while the overcoat was now fashioned as a floor-sweeping skirt. Pinstripes soon emerged on look four, with the shirt collar yanked up and repurposed as a hood, while, on closer inspection, the trousers were overlaid with pinstripe knickers, garters and suspenders that completely blended in. Gaultier explored the topic for his SS89 menswear show<\/span><em><span> Western Baroque<\/span><\/em><span>, where models strutted the runway in gold chaps and satin budgie smugglers, and also brought the cowboys back for SS09 too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While today\u2019s looks were a lot more pared back than Gaultier\u2019s own, the Western references were there, and delicately coded into the clothes. Along with the aforementioned hat\/vest hybrid, black cowboy hats accompanied a number of the all-black looks, leather gloves subtly recalled the rootin\u2019, tootin\u2019 gunslingers of yore, while another black shirt came in stealth Western mode, with two front chest pockets and epaulettes on each shoulder.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>A TOUCH OF DURAN\u2026<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"f000636a-41e4-4ffb-8eba-b407015629be\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440973.jpg\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"landscape\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"1.25\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"landscape\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jean Paul Gaultier AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"2400\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440973.jpg\" width=\"3000\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Jean Paul <span class=\"nowrap\">Gaultier AW26<\/span><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Photography Jamie-Maree Shipton<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Though things were discernibly more covered up than last season, the clothes still managed to be playful and subversive in a way only Lantink knows how. The humped shoulders and engorged underwear of some looks were often indistinguishable from Lantink\u2019s own label, while a variation of the ski jumper pattern from his AW24 collection returned on a rather restrictive halterneck top.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>BUT DON\u2019T FORGET THE GAULTIER<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"inline-img expandable dev-view-hide\" data-img=\"2bbf1c86-3b2d-460c-9799-b40701560ecf\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/2000\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440970.JPG\" data-img-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\" data-img-aspect-ratio=\"0.8\"><span class=\"has-css-custom-props image-container\" data-aspect-ratio-type=\"portrait\"><span class=\"preserve-aspect-ratio\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jean Paul Gaultier AW26\" class=\"img\" height=\"3000\" src=\"https:\/\/images-prod.dazeddigital.com\/786\/azure\/dazed-prod\/1440\/0\/1440970.JPG\" width=\"2400\"><\/span><\/span><figcaption class=\"img-caption\"><span class=\"caption\">Jean Paul <span class=\"nowrap\">Gaultier AW26<\/span><\/span><span class=\"credit\">Photography Jamie-Maree Shipton<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>As well as the mangled tailoring and catwalk cowboys, Lantink also explored several other Gaultier touchstones. Colour-blocked trousers and blazers in a technical nylon material were a reference to Gaultier\u2019s early, sportier collections, while the thick, stacked rings around the middle of a velvet dress recalled the piled-up necklaces of SS94\u2019s <\/span><em><span>Les Tatouages<\/span><\/em><span>. Elsewhere, two models emerged around the halfway point, each wearing a white bodysuit with a wooden mannequin printed on it, a call back to the AW04 <\/span><em><span>Les Marionnettes<\/span><\/em><span> collection. Last September, the Dutch designer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/duran-lantink\"><span>Duran Lantink<\/span><\/a><span> made his debut for the house, reviving a ready-to-wear line that had lain dormant for the last 11 years. On the catwalk, Lantink provoked with bulbous proportions, peculiar cutouts and trompe-l\u2019\u0153il bodysuits complete with realistic genitalia. While some applauded his want for disruption, many decried his apparent affront to good taste. Even Lantink himself was surprised by the reaction, saying in a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/fashion-beauty\/duran-lantink-jean-paul-gaultier-interview-ss-2026-debut\"><span>interview<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cI knew that criticism would be coming, but not necessarily in the way that it happened.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This afternoon in Paris, Lantink returned for his sophomore collection. After the previous season\u2019s histrionics, anticipation was arguably higher than before. But, in a complete 180 to last September\u2019s flesh-baring antics, the designer presented a (mostly) buttoned-up offering, with full-coverage gowns and tailoring at its core. Because, ultimately,\u00a0 what\u2019s more <\/span><em><span>enfant terrible<\/span><\/em><span> than doing the exact opposite of what everyone expects?<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><span>WAS THAT MACAULAY CULKIN?<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"instagram-container embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"media-instagram\" data-script-depends=\"instagram-embeds\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div class=\"embed-content\" data-embed-type=\"raw-html\">\n<p><span>Gathered together in the Montparnasse neighbourhood, this season\u2019s guest list included the usual mix of global stars. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dazeddigital.com\/tag\/tyla\">Tyla<\/a> was on the front row in a corset dress with a built-in cone bra, sat next to ex-<em>Euphoria<\/em> alum Barbie Ferreira, who wore her own all-black creation from the brand. Elsewhere, the Berlin-based artist LIA LIA chatted to Lennon Gallagher, while Naomi Watts, Tokischa, <\/span><em><span>The Substance<\/span><\/em><span> director Coralie Fargeat and Jean Paul Gaultier himself made up the rest of the frow. It made sense, then, that Lantink started this collection with simple tailoring \u2013 a black suit underneath a long pleated overcoat \u2013 then proceeded to splice and dice it throughout the show. For the second look, the blazer had morphed into a bomber jacket hybrid, while the overcoat was now fashioned as a floor-sweeping skirt. Pinstripes soon emerged on look four, with the shirt collar yanked up and repurposed as a hood, while, on closer inspection, the trousers were overlaid with pinstripe knickers, garters and suspenders that completely blended in. Gaultier explored the topic for his SS89 menswear show<\/span><em><span> Western Baroque<\/span><\/em><span>, where models strutted the runway in gold chaps and satin budgie smugglers, and also brought the cowboys back for SS09 too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While today\u2019s looks were a lot more pared back than Gaultier\u2019s own, the Western references were there, and delicately coded into the clothes. Colour-blocked trousers and blazers in a technical nylon material were a reference to Gaultier\u2019s early, sportier collections, while the thick, stacked rings around the middle of a velvet dress recalled the piled-up necklaces of SS94\u2019s <\/span><em><span>Les Tatouages<\/span><\/em><span>. Elsewhere, two models emerged around the halfway point, each wearing a white bodysuit with a wooden mannequin printed on it, a call back to the AW04 <\/span><em><span>Les Marionnettes<\/span><\/em><span> collection.
