What she\u2019s referring to is the spirit of evangelism that seems to take over her during our call. Within minutes of getting on the phone, she\u2019s instructed me not to truncate my name from \u2018Solomon\u2019 to \u2018Sol\u2019 because \u201cif you have a king\u2019s name, you mustn\u2019t shorten it,\u201d declared that the secret to happiness is submitting yourself to God, and stated that \u201cSeek God first\u201d is the best advice she\u2019s ever been given. \u201cI became Tems after that,\u201d the 30-year-old Nigerian singer reflects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Given that Tems\u2019 warm and earthy vocal tones have captivated listeners around the world in the six years since her breakout feature on Wizkid\u2019s \u201cEssence\u201d in 2020, these aren\u2019t words to be taken lightly. Over the years, the alt\u00e9 pioneer has transformed from a self-described \u201cquiet child\u201d whose only dream was to be heard, to shattering records in every direction. With her feature on Future\u2019s 2022 single \u201cWith U\u201d, she became the first Nigerian artist to debut at number one on the Billboard 100, and in 2025 she became the first female African artist to accumulate over one billion streams. Most recently, she topped charts once more with Dave collab \u201cRaindance\u201d, presented at the Brits, and was named Hennessy\u2019s latest brand ambassador. Seek the Kingdom of God first and all things will be made available to you. When I started doing that, my life became a whole lot better and I became Tems, because I wasn\u2019t Tems before that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>B IS FOR\u2026 BIRTHPLACE. WHAT WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD DREAM?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>My childhood dream was to be seen and to be heard, as I was a quiet child.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>E IS FOR\u2026 ENDGAME. WHAT\u2019S YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>My ultimate goal is to be transformed by the renewal of my mind and to become the kind of person that inspires others to also leave the world behind\u2026 sorry, I\u2019m a bit charged up today. It\u2019s only God that can transform you, and what that really means is just acknowledging that you and I are flawed. It\u2019s not changing myself by, like, reading self-help books, but just allowing things to flow how they were meant to flow, and by submitting myself to allow that change to happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I actually think that\u2019s the secret to finding happiness because, you know, nothing truly makes you happy. King Solomon wrote a book called Ecclesiastes, and he said, \u2018Everything is meaningless\u2019. That\u2019s the richest person who\u2019s ever lived. What is something that would make you feel really fulfilled, not just for a month, but a lifetime? That\u2019s a question people should think about, and I can\u2019t give you the answer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>F IS FOR\u2026 FOR YOU PAGE. WHAT\u2019S ON YOUR FYP RIGHT NOW?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>My for you page is a lot of people talking about God, and cats and dogs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>G IS FOR\u2026 GROWTH. HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED OVER THE YEARS?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Well, I think I\u2019m a bit more outgoing, and I\u2019m a bit less hesitant to speak my true mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>H IS FOR\u2026 HOBBY. DO YOU HAVE A NICHE HOBBY?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>I actually am a tea connoisseur, and I make my own perfume, because I don\u2019t like to smell like anyone else. I mix the raw ingredients and make my own tea. That\u2019s my way of enjoying life \u2013 finding things that help me feel creative. But when I do find my phone again, I always find myself going back to TikTok. It\u2019s not great. I\u2019m not addicted to TikTok, but I have the tendency to become addicted. Thou shall not prevail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>J IS FOR\u2026 JOKES. WHO MAKES YOU LAUGH MOST IN THE WORLD?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>That\u2019s hard. I joke a lot with my friends, when we\u2019re experiencing life and we both know that something that just happened is funny. We laugh in sync. Also, when I talk to my mum, she makes me laugh-cry for like 30 minutes. My mum is actually the funniest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>K IS FOR\u2026 KICKBACK. HOW DO YOU RELAX?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Candles, bathtub, calming oils, lavender, rose petals and magnesium \u2013 everything that makes you calm. Dim light and soothing music, no voices, just changes in tone. Everybody should indulge in self-care; everyone needs some pampering once in a while.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>L IS FOR\u2026 LOVE. WHAT\u2019S THE MOST ROMANTIC THING THAT SOMEONE\u2019S EVER DONE FOR YOU?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Well, I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s the <\/span><em><span>most<\/span><\/em><span> romantic, but yesterday, someone cooked for me when we couldn\u2019t find food. It was a little thing, but it was really, really sweet to see the effort that was being put into trying to make sure that I was fed, even though I\u2019m not sure the person knew what to do. If I say anything more, people might start looking into things.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>If you don\u2019t love yourself, you can\u2019t love anybody else. It\u2019s actually wiser to observe. When you go into the mud, you become dirty too. When people focus on other people\u2019s dirtiness, they forget that they\u2019re also dirty. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE TRYING TO GET OVER THEIR EX?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>I\u2019m trying to be practical. So, if this is really happening to someone I know, give me your phone. Take one or two days without your phone. Get a Bible, get a journal, write a letter. Pour out all your emotions, everything that you felt, onto this letter. Then, burn it. Then, ask yourself, \u2018Who am I?\u2019 Having an ex is already so much to learn from, and, if it didn\u2019t work out, there\u2019s something to learn. Be honest with yourself: What do I like? What do I not like? What part did I have to play? Did I abandon myself? Get deep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Y IS FOR\u2026 YOUNGER SELF. WHAT\u2019S ONE THING YOU WOULD TELL YOUR 13-YEAR-OLD SELF?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>Everything you\u2019re going through is preparation for where you\u2019re headed. So, that automatically makes me so tired at night that by 10 pm I\u2019m already dozing off, and then I wake up really early, like six. Dim light and soothing music, no voices, just changes in tone. It was a little thing, but it was really, really sweet to see the effort that was being put into trying to make sure that I was fed, even though I\u2019m not sure the person knew what to do. It\u2019s actually wiser to observe. When you go into the mud, you become dirty too. When people focus on other people\u2019s dirtiness, they forget that they\u2019re also dirty. Take one or two days without your phone. Get a Bible, get a journal, write a letter. Pour out all your emotions, everything that you felt, onto this letter. Then, burn it. Then, ask yourself, \u2018Who am I?\u2019 Having an ex is already so much to learn from, and, if it didn\u2019t work out, there\u2019s something to learn. Be honest with yourself: What do I like? What do I not like? What part did I have to play? Did I abandon myself? Get deep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Y IS FOR\u2026 YOUNGER SELF.
