She was the first Afro-Colombian artist to direct the museum, which she diversified by including more Black and Indigenous artists. Angulo Cort\u00e9s also accelerated an institutional shift that prioritized colonial remembrance and the reparation of marginalized communities at the 1823-founded museum, one of the oldest on the continent. Among a myriad of responses to news of her death, the <strong>Museo de Arte Moderno de Medell\u00edn<\/strong> said she \u201crepresented a shift in how Colombian contemporary art is understood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>BEIRUT ART SCENE SUSPENDED<\/strong>. Cultural centers in Beirut have suspended operations amid the escalating regional conflict, reports <em>ArtAsiaPacific<\/em>. Berlin\u2019s museums are also victims of of poor visitor guidance and water damage, as in the case of the <strong>Kunstgewerbemuseum.<\/strong>\u00a0[Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung]<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kicker <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>THE OLD WITH THE NEW<\/strong>. Ahead of a <strong>Mark Rothko<\/strong> exhibition at the <strong>Palazzo Strozzi <\/strong>in Florence, the museum\u2019s director <strong>Arturo Galansino<\/strong>\u00a0talked to the <em>Financial Times<\/em> about his approach to connecting contemporary and modern art with \u201cthe modernity of the Renaissance.\u201d It certainly jibes with Rothko, who \u201chad a life-long passion and engagement with the Italian Renaissance,\u201d per his son, <strong>Christopher Rothko<\/strong>, who is curating the show with <strong>Elena Guena<\/strong>. In fact, Rothko was influenced by a 1950 visit to Florence, just as he was developing his signature style.
